Champions Crowned After Thrilling Finish at 26th Women’s Partnership Match Play

Briefly: Match Day 3 at the 26th Women’s Partnership Match Play wrapped up with 45 holes of fierce competition and five champions rising to the top. Tight races and dramatic finishes brought this year’s tournament to an electric close, with teams pushing the limits in pursuit of victory.

Flight One saw Camm Dougherty of Corpus Christi and Leslie McCallick of Horseshoe Bay edge out the competition in an action-packed battle. Entering the final match with a slim lead, the duo clinched the title by scoring eight points, just enough for a two-point win in a thrilling finish. The pair’s chemistry and steady play throughout the tournament proved pivotal when the pressure was on scoring 50 points total for the tournament.

Flight Two included a dramatic finish as well. Lisa Papes of Allen and Sarah Farmer of Arlington stormed to the top with a flight-high 13 points in Match Four, finishing with 57 points overall. The duo’s consistency across all matches helped them stay in contention and ultimately seize the win.

In Flight Three, Claudia Willis and Dianne Dillard of Bryan went wire-to-wire to claim victory. The team’s 12-point performance in the final match secured a two-point win and capped off a dominant run, finishing with 54 points. It was a showcase of precise teamwork and unwavering momentum from start to finish.

Houston’s Elise Storaune and Kerry Carter-Taylor eked out a hard-fought win in Flight Four, carding 11 points to seal the deal by just one point in a tightly contested field. Their clutch performance under pressure highlighted their ability to deliver when every stroke mattered.

Flight Five was stacked heading into the final day, but Grace Ferguson of Spring Branch and Veronica Fair of Odem pulled away with a commanding finish. The team’s 10-point effort brought their total to 54—good for an eight-point victory. The pair’s strong close was a testament to their strategic approach and finishing power.

Across all five flights, a total of 1,299 points were scored. The course, rated at 72.7 with a slope of 136, challenged even the most seasoned players and added to the intensity of the weekend’s action.

Golf Course: White Bluff Resort’s New Course, located just a few miles from Lake Whitney in Whitney, Texas, was designed by Bruce Lietzke and opened in 1998. The New Course stretches more than 100 yards longer than the resort’s Old Course and, with a slope rating of 147 and a course rating of 75.5, is considered the more challenging of the two layouts. For Monday’s Matches One and Two, the course played at a total yardage of 5,305 yards.

Weather: Wednesday brought near-perfect playing conditions, with temperatures in the low to mid-70s and a gentle breeze setting the stage. A light mist rolled in around 9 a.m., adding a touch of drama before clearing out by 9:30. Just as the final scores were tallied around 11 a.m., the rain returned—marking a poetic end to a spirited morning on the course.
