Bob Romero Scholarship

Providing financial support to help junior golfers gain valuable competitive experience.

The Bob Romero Scholarship connects emerging junior golfers with life-changing competitive opportunities through events conducted by the Texas Golf Association (TGA) and the Texas Junior Golf Alliance, a statewide partnership between the TGA and the Northern and Southern Texas PGA Sections (NTPGA, STPGA), when limited financial resources would otherwise prevent it.

ABOUT BOB ROMERO

The scholarship was established to honor the memory of longtime TGA Director Dr. Robert Romero, or “Dr. Bob” as he was called by all who came to know him. Dr. Bob embodied the true volunteer spirit and devoted untold hours giving back to the game he dearly loved. During his 20+ years as a TGA Director, he traversed across the state working the Association’s championships as a Rules official, starter, or in whatever capacity was needed.

FUNDS & APPLICATIONS

The scholarship is funded solely through donations from TGA Foundation supporters. Donations are requested and accepted during the online entry registration process for TGA and Texas Junior Golf Alliance tournaments, which gives current competitive players the opportunity to assist in helping to create a pathway for the next generation.

Scholarship applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and considered on a number of criteria, including:

Financial need
Record of participation in TGA, Legends Junior Tour (LJT), and NTPGA and STPGA Junior Golf programs/events
Eligibility and exemption status with the LJT
Prior LJT participation and results
