Texas Super Senior Set for April 19-21
The 2021 Texas Super Senior Amateur Championship will be played April 19-21 on Ridglea Country Club’s North Course in Fort Worth.
Designed by John Bredemus, the North Course at Ridglea Country Club opened in 1928. Bredemus, one of a select few golf course architects elected to the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, carved out a timeless classic on the gently rolling topography southwest of downtown Fort Worth. The North Course’s narrow fairways, uphill and downhill holes, bending left and right doglegs and small, contoured greens continue to delight and challenge players of all ages and skill levels nearly a century later.
Host to numerous TGA championships throughout its long history, including last year’s Women’s Senior Stroke Play, this will be the first Texas Super Senior Amateur to be held at Ridglea Country Club.
To accommodate a wide range of players, the Texas Super Senior Amateur features two age divisions: 65 and older (Super Senior) and 75 and older (Legends). The format is 54 holes of individual stroke play with no cut. Each age division competes from different tees and yardages, with a separate champion recognized. Prizes are also awarded to low Net scores in both Super Senior and Legends Divisions.
The 2020 championship was canceled due to health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Ed Brooks of Fort Worth won the weather-shortened 2019 Texas Super Senior Amateur with a 36-hole total of 4-over 144 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco. Richard Lundy of Amarillo finished at 17-over 157 to win the Legends Division. Lundy also claimed low Net honors with a handicap adjusted total of 147 (+7). Bill Holstead of Wichita Falls and Bill Huckin of Dallas tied for low Net in the Super Senior Division at 141 (+1).
Live scoring updates, daily recaps, as well as tee-times and pairings, will be available once the action gets underway from Ridglea Country Club.
The Texas Super Senior Amateur was first played in 2015. The championship is open to male amateur golfers age 65 and older (75 and older for Legends Division) by the tournament start date, belong to a TGA Member Club and have a World Handicap System Index of 12.4 or less (16.4 or less for Legends).
