Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club in San Antonio will be the host site for the 2024 Texas League Play Championship Playoffs. The 16-team, single-elimination bracket tournament will be held from May 30 through June 2.

This will be the second year in a row Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club has hosted the showdown between teams representing member clubs of the Texas Golf Association (TGA) squaring off in a head-to-head competition for state bragging rights. DeCordova Bend Country Club in Granbury notched their record-setting fourth overall title in 2023 when they defeated Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Mont Belvieu, 8-4, in the championship finals.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club for the Texas League Play postseason,” said Justin Guthrie, TGA Tournament Director. “The Championship Playoffs is one of our most exciting events of the year and the club has proven to be a fantastic venue for teams to enjoy four days of competition and camaraderie.”

Located about 15 miles west of downtown San Antonio, Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club boasts three nine-hole courses designed by Arthur Hills and Associates. The original 18 holes, the Lakes and Oaks Courses, opened for play in 1993. The Creeks Course was added in 2005. Encompassing more than 200 acres, the three nines blend together seamlessly, yet each offers distinct settings from links-style undulating grasslands to a parkland backdrop with tree-shaded plateaus and tranquil lakes and ponds.

The journey to the Championship Playoffs began in early spring with an initial lineup of 56 TGA member clubs divided into 14 regional conferences of four clubs each. During the regular season, which ran from March 6 through May 12, the clubs in each conference played a home-and-away series for a total of six matches over the nine-week stretch.

Club teams are comprised of eight players and each team match consists of four, four-ball matches: one played at scratch and three by handicap indexes arranged from low to high. Within each of the four-ball matches that make up one team match, there is one point awarded for winning the front nine, one for the back nine and one for the overall 18-hole match. A total of 12 points are available within each team match and at least 6.5 points are needed for a team victory.

The teams compiling the best record in their respective conferences earn a spot in the playoffs to determine the overall state champion. Two wild-card teams are also selected for postseason play to complete the 16-team bracket. A third wild-card selection has been added in 2024 as a substitution for a club team that was unable to compete in the playoffs.

The regional conference winners and wild-card teams are seeded into the Championship Playoffs based on the total number of points accumulated during the regular season. Defending champion DeCordova Bend Country Club secured the No. 1 seed with 59 points. San Angelo Country Club claimed the No. 2 seed with 52 points. In addition to DeCordova Bend, three other past Texas League Play champions qualified for the postseason. They are Odessa Country Club (winners in 2019, 2022), Nutcracker Golf Club (2020), and Golf Club of Houston (2017). Eagle Pointe Golf Club, runner-up in 2023, is also back for this year’s playoffs.

The first- and second-round matches will be played May 30-31, semifinals on June 1 and the final on June 2. All matches are 18 holes and will be contested on the Creeks and Oaks Courses.

Live scoring updates and daily recaps from the 2024 Texas League Play Championship Playoffs will be available on the TGA website once the action gets underway from Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club.
