Texas and Oklahoma Golf Associations Unite for Inaugural Cross-State Golf Tournament

ADDISON, TX – The golfing communities of Texas and Oklahoma are set to converge in an exciting new event as the Texas Golf Association (TGA) and the Oklahoma Golf Association (OGA) join forces to host the inaugural Red River Cup Matches. Scheduled for November 20-21, the tournament promises two days of exhilarating competition at The Territory Golf & Country Club in Duncan, Okla.

The tournament format will showcase the best golfing talent from both states, featuring a captivating blend of Four-Ball Matches on day one and Singles Matches on day two. This unique setup will not only highlight individual skills but also foster camaraderie and teamwork among participants.

A distinguishing aspect of this tournament is the diverse composition of the teams. Each team will comprise of eight male mid-amateurs, six male senior amateurs, and four women mid-amateurs, ensuring representation across various demographics within the golfing community.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Oklahoma Golf Association for this exciting venture,” said Kevin Porter, Director of Competitions with the Texas Golf Association. “This tournament celebrates the rich golfing heritage of our respective states while also embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that guides the game of golf.”

The Territory Golf & Country Club features mature oak trees and is nestled among numerous rock outcroppings across its 640 acres. The course was designed by Randy Heckenkemper and pays homage to the terrain. Stagestand creek traverses itself through the property and sits at the base of the 100-foot elevation changes throughout.

“We are excited to collaborate with our friends from the Texas Golf Association. This competition builds on the inherit rivalry that is OU/Texas, but also brings both state organizations closer together,” said Kevin Stanton, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Golf Association.  “We have already received questions from our players on how to make the team, so the excitement is out there. We are also ecstatic that a great venue like the Territory Golf & Country Club has agreed to be the first host. It is one of our best facilities in southern Oklahoma and should present quite a challenge to both teams. “

Players will earn positions on their respective teams by participating in tournaments held throughout the year. This competitive pathway emphasizes skill, dedication, and consistent performance on the golf course, which will set up the event to feature the best players from each state.
