Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort set to host 11th Women’s Stroke Play Championship

ADDISON – The 11th Women’s Stroke Play Championship is set to take place in the scenic Hill Country at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort. The second major on the women’s calendar will welcome some of the state’s top amateur players from July 11–13.

“We are excited to bring a major championship to Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort,” said Kristi Knight, the Texas Golf Association’s director of women’s golf. “They have been phenomenal hosts in the past, having hosted the 98th Texas Junior Amateur Girls Division and multiple Texas League Play events. We look forward to another great event with their staff and membership.”

Originally founded in 1981, Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort is located in Boerne, Texas, about 40 minutes northwest of San Antonio. Built on a former cattle ranch with 27 holes of golf, the resort was purchased in 2011 by country music legend George Strait and partner Tom Cusick. In 2015, the course underwent a comprehensive, multi-million-dollar restoration project led by Tripp Davis. The following year, Golf Inc. recognized it as the No. 1 Most Improved Public Course in the nation. The resort and course remain a cornerstone of Hill Country golf, welcoming players of all skill levels.

“There is some amazing history with this course,” Knight said. “Though this event is younger compared to some of our others, the history of both the course and the championship is going to make it truly special.”

The championship will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play. The 30 lowest-handicap entrants are required to compete in the Championship Division from the championship yardage. Players outside the top 30 may also declare to play in the Championship Division. All remaining participants will compete in the Flights Division, which will play from shorter tees and be pre-flighted based on handicap. The maximum field is 84 players.

The 10th Women’s Stroke Play was originally scheduled for July 2024 but was postponed until September due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl. The event was held at The Woodlands Country Club – North Course. Emma McMyler claimed her second Women’s Stroke Play title, having previously won the 7th edition at The Club at Comanche Trace in 2021. The victory marked her fourth major championship title with the Texas Golf Association.

The 11th Women’s Stroke Play will feature several prominent names in women’s amateur golf, including Avery Blake (Oral Roberts University), Sophia Ellstead (junior golfer and Oklahoma State commit), Yvonne Chamness (Texas State University), and Stephanie De Marco (junior golfer and 2024 Girls Division Legends Junior Tour Player of the Year), among many other talented competitors.

First-round play will commence Friday, July 11, at 8 a.m., off No. 1 and No. 10 tee.
