Packed Leaderboard Concludes Round 1 at the 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf

Lucas Latimer of Rockwall and Declan Dent of Grapevine share the lead after carding 3-under 68s in the Boys Division, while Quinn Timmerman of Boerne and Gia Ahlowalia of Southlake lead the Girls Division at 2-under 70 after Monday’s opening round of the 99th Texas Junior Amateur, presented by Edwin Watts Golf.

The 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf welcomed 231 players to Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Apple Rock and Ram Rock courses. Competitors are split across four divisions — Boys, Girls, Boys 14 & Under, and Girls 14 & Under — as they begin their chase for the title.

In the Boys Division, Latimer carried momentum from reaching the Round of 32 at the 77th U.S. Junior Amateur at Trinity Forest into a strong start at Horseshoe Bay. He posted three birdies on the front nine and four on the back, finishing with a birdie on No. 18 to cap his 68. Dent was equally steady, recording four birdies through No. 15 before a double bogey on No. 17. Just one stroke back at 2-under 69 are Bennett Kuhns and William Mangione of Austin, Preston Chabaud of Katy, and Jace Hulett of Boerne.

In the Girls Division, Timmerman overcame a rocky front nine on Apple Rock, where she carded two birdies and three bogeys, by rebounding with birdies on Nos. 10, 11, and 13 to post a bogey-free back nine. Ahlowalia also turned it on late. After a front-nine 37 that included two birdies, a bogey, and a double bogey, the 2027 graduate played the back nine at 3-under to grab a share of the lead. Honorine Nobuta-Ferry of Flower Mound, the defending champion, sits in solo third at 1-under 71 as the 2028 graduate looks to repeat.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Theodor Lieu of Dallas leads after a 3-under 68 that featured three straight birdies on Nos. 10-12. Bryar Murphy of Prosper and Wyatt Brindza of Celina are tied for second at 1-under 71 heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Jessie Lee of San Antonio leads the Girls 14 & Under Division after shooting an even-par 72 in Monday’s opening round. Lee was the only player in the division to post par or better, giving her a two-stroke advantage heading into the final round. Muci Guo of Bellaire sits in solo second at 2-over 74, while Alvia Bravo of Lantana, Dixie Mae Crain of Springtown, and Emma Nguyen of Frisco are tied for third at 3-over 75.

After Round Two, the Boys and Girls 14 & Under Division will have a champion crowned, while the Boys Division will be cut to the low 45 and ties, and the Girls Division will be cut to the low 27 and ties ahead of Round 3.

The official yardage of Round One for the Apple Rock Course was 6,291 yards for the Boys 14 & Under Division, 5,596 yards for the Girls 14 & Under Division, and 5,955 yards for the Girls Division. The official yards for the Boys Division on the Ram Rock course were 6,691 yards.
