North Amateur and South Amateur set to close out regional season 

ADDISON – Sugar Tree Golf Club in Lipan and South Shore Harbour Country Club in League City will serve as host venues for the North Regional Amateur and South Regional Amateur, respectively. The North Amateur is scheduled for Aug. 6-8, with the South Amateur following Aug. 7-9, closing out the 2026 regional season. 

Built in 1988 by course designer Phil Lumsden, Sugar Tree is known as a shot-maker’s course, with tree-lined fairways along the Brazos River that demand well-placed shots off the tee and into the green. South Shore Harbour’s Shore/Harbour composite layout was originally designed by Dave Marr and Jay Riviere, with Jeffery D. Blume contributing to further course work in 1999. The parkland-style layout features tree-lined fairways across its three nine-hole courses. 

First played in 2003, Regional Amateur entries are open to male amateur golfers with an up-to-date WHS Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4, issued through a TGA member club, who reside in the region relative to their respective championship. The delineation between the North and South regions is the 31st parallel, which passes through the city of Salado.  

Both championships are conducted using the same competitive format. Each field of 84 players will play 54 holes of individual stroke play over three days with no cut. 

Exemptions into both fields are extended to the top 10 finishers and ties from last year’s respective Regional Amateur, the top five players on each region’s current Medalist Points List, the last five Regional Amateur champions, the last five Regional Mid-Amateur champions, the current year’s Regional Senior Amateur champion, and three host club exemptions. 

The North Amateur will begin Thursday, Aug. 6, with Round 1 starting at 8 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10, followed by Round 2 on Friday, Aug. 7, and the final round Saturday, Aug. 8, each beginning at the same time. The South Amateur will open Friday, Aug. 7, with Round 1 beginning at 8 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10, followed by Round 2 on Saturday, Aug. 8, and the final round Sunday, Aug. 9. Starting times and pairings for the first round of the North Amateur will be posted no later than Aug. 3, with the South Amateur’s first- and second-round pairings released no later than Aug. 4. Live scoring updates and daily recaps will also be available online once play gets underway from both host clubs. 

At the 2025 championships, Blake Keen of Burleson won the North Regional Amateur in a playoff at Wichita Falls Country Club. John Solis of Laredo captured the South Regional Amateur at The Woodlands Country Club, highlighted by a course-record-tying second-round 11-under 61.
