Neidel, Nobuta Ferry Crowned Champions at 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf
HORSESHOE BAY – Tyler Neidel of Lakeway and Honorine Nobuta Ferry of Flower Mound claimed titles at the 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf, capping off an impressive week at Horseshoe Bay and concluding the final major championship of the 2025 junior season.
“It feels great, honestly,” Neidel said after the win. “I didn’t think I could do it. I’ve worked really hard, and my mental game was amazing.”
Neidel began the day in second place but quickly climbed to the top of the leaderboard with three birdies on the front nine, taking the lead at the turn. Despite pressure from the field down the stretch, the Jacksonville State commit stayed composed, responding to bogeys with timely birdies. He walked up the 18th fairway knowing the title was his, tapping in for par to secure the victory.
“I hit out of bounds on No. 14 and saved a bogey, which helped my confidence,” Neidel said.
With the win, Neidel earned an exemption into the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley in 2026.
“It feels good (to earn the exemption). It’s a tournament I’ve dreamed of playing,” said Neidel, a 2025 graduate. “I’ve always wanted to play in it, and it’ll be nice to take the time to practice and compete.”
Tying for second at 4-under 209 were Lucas Latimer of Rockwall, Jaxson Henegar of Dallas and Jace Hulett of Boerne. Preston Chabaud of Katy rounded out the top five at 2-under 211.
In the Girls Division, Nobuta Ferry delivered a dominant performance, firing a 7-under 65 in the final round to finish at 11-under for the tournament. The 2028 graduate’s round included six birdies and a hole-out eagle from about 140 yards on No. 16.
With the win, Nobuta Ferry became the first back-to-back Girls Division champion since Hailey Jones in 2015-16. She also captured last year’s title at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, where she rallied with a final-round 65.
“It feels great,” Nobuta Ferry said. “It doesn’t feel like that long ago that I shot that 65 (at Tapatio Springs) to come from behind. I am really happy to repeat and do it again this year.”
She also earned her second consecutive USGA exemption and will compete in the 77th U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur at Old Chatham Golf Club.
“It feels really great earning that exemption again,” she said. “It’s a lot less nerve-racking knowing I have the exemption and don’t have to play in an 18-hole shootout.”
Gia Ahlowalia of Southlake finished runner-up at 5-under 211, while Shyla Brown of Dallas, a U.S. National Development Program player, took third at 4-under 212. Natalie Nobles of Navasota placed fourth at 1-under 212.
The 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf is an official USGA Exemption Event. The Boys Division champion will earn an exemption into the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club, while the Girls Division champion will earn an exemption into the 77th U.S. Girls Junior at Old Chatham Golf Club in 2026.
