Legends Junior Tour Returns to San Antonio
DALLAS—The Alamo Shootout returns to the Legends Junior Tour schedule for 2017 and Briggs Ranch Golf Club is set to host the 36-hole event on June 5-6.
Last held in 2011, the Alamo Shootout returns to the San Antonio area and offers players in the Boys 15-18 Division a final chance at earning an exemption into the Byron Nelson Junior Championship. The top five finishers in the Boys 15-18 Division will earn an exemption into the invitational held at Lakewood Country Club on June 27-29.
This is the seventh ‘Open’ event on the Legends Junior Tour thus far in 2017 and we’ve had a different winner at each event in the Boys 15-18 Division. There has been one multi-winner in each the Girls 12-18 Division and the Boys 14 & Under Division.
Briggs Ranch Golf Club was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2001. The course is one of the top tracks in San Antonio and will stretch out to 6,839 yards in the Boys 15-18 Division, 6, 255 yards in the Boys 14 & Under Division and 5,808 yards in the Girls 12-18 Division. The course is covered in zoysia grass from tees to fairways, while the greens are bent grass.

Scott Tredo of Fair Oaks Ranch won the Boys 15-18 Division in 2011, shooting rounds of 72-66 to get to 4-under overall and three strokes ahead of the field. Austin’s Cooper Dossey won the Boys 14 & Under Division with an overall score of 2-over 144, while Dallas’ Megan Thothong won the Girls 12-18 Division by six strokes.
The 84-player field will play two rounds of stroke play, 18 holes on June 5 and 18 on June 6. Players will compete in three divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and Girls 12-18. The tournament will be ranked by Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard and points to the top half of each division will be handed out for LJT Player of the Year standings.
