Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship set for November 23-24
ADDISON, — The Legends Junior Tour is set to host the 2024 Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship at Golf Club of Texas A&M in College Station. This marks the tournament’s first visit to the venue in its 16-year history.
“We are excited to take another tournament back to Golf Club of Texas A&M,” shared Tournament Director Adam Schulte. “We had previously been there for the 2018 Fall Challenge, a great tournament. The staff there is top tier and they love seeing the best junior players in the state of Texas and surrounding areas battle it out.”
Originally scheduled for July 8-9, the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship was rescheduled due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl.
Opened in 1951, Golf Club of Texas A&M serves as the university’s campus course. Designed by Ralph Plummer, known for his work at Colonial Country Club, Champions Golf Club, and Dallas Athletic Club, the course has been a fixture in College Station for over 60 years. A comprehensive renovation by Texas A&M alum Jeff Blume in 2013 enhanced the course, which now spans just over 7,000 yards and poses challenges for even elite golfers.
At last year’s Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship at Ironhorse Golf Course in North Richland Hills, Garrett McMellon of Garland secured his first LJT Victory with a 3-under-par 137 after a two-hole playoff. Joshua’s Kaylee Yuan led wire-to-wire in the Girls 12-18 Division, finishing at even par 140. Dallas’ Cameron Lewis won the Boys 14 & Under Division in a playoff after carding a 1-over-par 141.
The Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship features 36 holes of stroke play across three divisions: 15-18 Boys, 14 & Under Boys, and 12-18 Girls. The 120-player field will tee off for the first round at 7:30 a.m. on November 23.
