John Stollenwerck wins 2014 North Amateur Championship
PLANO — John Stollenwerck of Dallas captured the North Amateur Championship on Sunday after firing an impressive final round of a 5-under-par 67. Stollenwerck won by four shots with a total score of 10-under 206 for the annual 54-hole championship.
Stollenwerck birdied 14 holes during the three rounds and only made bogey four times. His consistent play ultimately pushed him above the rest of the field. Stuart Smallwood took runner-up honors at 6-under 210. Smallwood birdied twice in the final round and turned in a bogey-free scorecard that read 2-under 70.
Brad Gibson and Clarke Kincaid tied for third place at 5-under 211 and earned exemptions into the 2015 Texas Amateur.
Other notable scores included Brooks Price of Dallas, who shot the course record at Watters Creek with a 9-under 63, which was 20 strokes lower than his first-round total.
“If I was ever going to shoot a 59, it was going to be today,” he said. “I left about four shots out there; it was there to take.”
Jacksonville’s Hunter Shattuck lost a bit of ground in the final round after posting a score of 75. He made 11 birdies over the 54 holes and shot even-par 216 for the championship.
The players were treated to great conditions and near perfect weather for the weekend. The TGA would like to thank The Courses at Watters Creek and its staff for their generosity and hospitality. Click Here for complete scoring.
