Intern Spotlight Series: Saira Gandhi

Fresh off graduating from the University of Arkansas this past May, Saira Gandhi has spent her summer making an impact as a P.J. Boatwright Intern with the Texas Golf Association.

For Gandhi, golf became more than just a game—it became a way to connect with people and give back to the community. One of her most memorable experiences came during the BGD Empowerment Academy at Hermann Park Golf Course in Houston, where she and fellow staff provided free Youth on Course memberships and gifts to young girls learning the game. “It was really fun and great to see all the young girls who are interested in golf participating,” Gandhi said.

Though she originally applied for a full-time position with the TGA, Gandhi found the internship aligned perfectly with her goals and past volunteer work. Throughout her time, she’s found inspiration and mentorship in the TGA’s Foundation & Outreach team, especially from Destany Hall, who has guided her along the way. “Destany has been a great mentor and everyone working here is very welcoming,” Gandhi said.

Her proudest moment came while helping coordinate a Member Day event at Texas Rangers Golf Course alongside Sydney Rounds. With 76 players in the field and just the two of them managing the event, Gandhi admitted it felt overwhelming at first—but the success of the day proved to be a highlight.

The internship, she says, has shaped her both personally and professionally. Gandhi has strengthened her skills in event planning, professional communication, and problem-solving, while also gaining a deeper appreciation for the role outreach plays in making golf accessible. “I was surprised by how many different ways there are to be involved in the golf industry beyond playing the game,” she said.

When asked to describe her internship in one word, Gandhi chose “rewarding.” Every event, project, and conversation gave her a sense of accomplishment and reaffirmed her belief in the importance of building community through sports.

As for advice to future interns, Gandhi encourages them to embrace every opportunity the program offers. “Knowing that my work has helped promote the game of golf and expand opportunities for others has been incredibly fulfilling,” she said.
