Inaugural Texas Junior Match Play set for July 6-9
The Legends Junior Tour’s busy summer season continues with the Texas Junior Match Play set for June 6-9. The event will take place at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia as the event will enter its first year.
“We are excited to welcome a match play format tournament to the schedule,” mentioned Tournament Director Adam Schulte. “This took the place of the Collegiate Preview and we believe that the players getting to compete in match play will elevate their game and also challenge their game compared to the normal stroke play format a lot of tournaments are used to seeing.”
High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, located in Magnolia just northwest of Houston, opened in 1999 and has established itself as one of the premier public golf facilities in the Greater Houston area. The course was designed by former PGA Tour professional David Ogrin alongside noted golf course architect Tim Nugent, taking advantage of the property’s rolling terrain, towering pines, hardwood forests and natural ravines to create a memorable championship layout.
Unlike a traditional 18-hole routing, High Meadow Ranch features three distinctive six-hole loops—the Forest Loop, Pine Barrens Loop, and Signature Loop—allowing for a unique playing experience. The course has earned recognition as one of Houston’s top public golf destinations thanks to its challenging design, excellent conditioning and picturesque setting within the High Meadow Ranch community.
“We are excited to have this event at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club,” shared Schulte. “Their staff and membership have been generous in hosting this event and getting to see some of the best junior players compete. This course is also a great layout for match play offering plenty or risk reward holes that could shake up some matches.”
Scheduled to begin July 6, the two divisions in the field (Boys and Girls Division) will compete over 36-holes stroke play qualifying for two days. At the conclusion of stroke play qualifying on July 7, the low 16 boys and low 8 girls will advance to match play.
July 8 will begin with Boys Round of 16 and the Girls Division Quarterfinals with the Boys Quarterfinal and the Girls Semifinals taking place in the afternoon. July 8, the Boys Division will kick off their semifinal match in the morning while the girls division will start the championship match and then the boys division will have their championship match that afternoon.
More than just a championship trophy is on the line at the inaugural Texas Junior Match Play. Players will compete for exemptions into several of the state’s premier championships, providing another pathway into some of the Legend’s Junior Tour most prestigious events. The Boys Division champion will earn exemptions into the Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational, the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational, Bluebonnet Championship, Texas Cup Invitational, 28th Huntington Byron Nelson Junior Championship and 101st Texas Junior Amateur. The Girls Division champion will receive exemptions into the 101st Texas Junior Amateur, Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational, the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational and the Bluebonnet Championship, and 2027 Texas Girls Invitational.
