Hulett, Ahlowalia Lead After Second Round 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf
Jace Hulett of Boerne and Gia Ahlowalia of Southlake lead their respective divisions after the second round of the 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf.
Hulett carded a 3-under 68, while Ahlowalia fired a bogey-free 3-under 69 to extend her lead heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Round two welcomed back 231 players across the Boys and Girls Divisions, which faced moving day conditions in an effort to make the cut. Meanwhile, the Boys and Girls 14 & Under Divisions completed their final rounds and crowned champions.
Hulett, a 2025 graduate and future Seton Hall golfer, entered Tuesday at 2-under after an opening-round 69. Taking advantage of an early tee time to avoid the heat, Hulett caught fire on the front nine with three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7, 8 and 9. He added two more birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 to finish the day at 5-under for the tournament. He will look to secure his first Legends Junior Tour major title in the final round.
Chasing Hulett is Tyler Neidel of Lakeway, who climbed the leaderboard with a bogey-free 4-under 67. Neidel, a Jacksonville State commit, now sits in striking distance heading into the final round.
Tied for third at 2-under 140 are Declan Dent of Grapevine, JP Lynch of Austin, Jaxson Henagar of Dallas and Preston Chabaud of Katy. Lynch, a 2028 graduate, posted one of the day’s best rounds with a 4-under 67.
In the Girls Division, Ahlowalia maintained her lead with a steady second round, carding three birdies and avoiding bogeys to remain in first at 5-under.
Defending champion Honorine Nobuta Ferry of Flower Mound moved into solo second after a 4-birdie round, keeping herself in contention to become the first back-to-back Girls Division winner since Hailey Jones in 2015-16.
Natalie Nobles of Navasota shot a 4-under 68 to claim solo third, while Shyla Brown of Dallas and Addison Bandelier of Austin share fourth at 1-under.
In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Lincoln Rubis of Farmers Branch emerged victorious after an eight-birdie performance led to a playoff with Theodore Lieu of Dallas. Rubis captured the title with a par on the third playoff hole.
Jessie Lee of San Antonio went wire-to-wire to win the Girls 14 & Under Division. The Class of 2030 player posted consecutive rounds of even-par 72 to win by three strokes.
