Griffins Win Texas Father-Son

Briefly: Matt and Will Griffin win the Texas Father-Son at the Club at Comanche Trace with a three day total of 19-under par 269. The Griffins won by nine strokes over Peach and Jay Reynolds and Gregory and Andrew Spear, who finished in a tie for second at 10-under par. Second round co-leaders Larry and Garrett Starks claimed victory in the Presidents Flight.

Golf Course: Comanche Trace is a sprawling 27-hole complex set amid 1,300 acres overlooking the Guadalupe River in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Of the three nines at Comanche Trace, the Texas Father-Son will be contested on the Hills and Valley Courses. These two nines comprise the original 18 holes at Comanche Trace and were designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Kite, along with Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell. The Creeks nine, added in 2008, was designed by the father-son team of Jay and Carter Morrish.
 
Weather: Sunny skies with a high in the mid-90s with a mild breeze out of the north.
 
Overall Championship Update: The Final Round of the Texas Father-Son featured the top teams playing combined score, as opposed to the four-ball format for the first two rounds. Will (son) ended the day with a six-under par 66 and Matt (father) finished the day with a five-over par 77. The father-son duo won their first Texas Father-Son back in 2011. Peach and Jay Reynolds and Gregory and Andrew Spear finished in a tie for second place at 10-under par 278. Both teams posted a combined score of 143 (1-under par) on Sunday. Peach (father) shot a one-over par 73 and Jay (son) shot a two-under par 70. Gregory (father) shot a seven-over par 79 and Andrew (son) shot a six-under par 64.
 
Presidents Flight Update: The Presidents Flight, which played a third round of gross four-ball, was won by Larry and Garrett Starks. The team ended the tournament at 11-under par 205 after a Final Round 5-under par 67. Dan and Hunter Cook finished runner-up at 10-under par 206.
 
Net Division Update: Jeff and Walker White defended their title in the Hogan Flight Division with a Final Round six-under par 66 and a three day total of 193. Jim and Patrick Bailey closed with a seven-under par 65 and to finish runner-up at 197. Winning the Nelson Flight, Tim and Darrell Bowe shot a Final Round score of eight-under par 64 to post a three day total of 187. The Crenshaw Flight was won by Ken and Jackson Sampson after they shot a seven-under 65 on Sunday for a three day total of 189. Larry and Larry Caraway Jr. stood atop the Kite Flight after finishing the Final Round with a score of eleven-under par 61 and a three day total of 189. Two teams, Don and Greg Taylor and Corey and David Trahan finished in a tie for second at 202.

The Texas Golf Association extends its sincere appreciation to the membership and staff at the Club at Comanche Trace for hosting this year’s Texas Father-Son. The 2020 Texas Father-Son will be contested at Barton Creek in Austin next July.
