Grey Rock Golf Club to host South Mid-Amateur

The TGA’s South Mid-Amateur Championship will venture into Austin in 2013 with Grey Rock Golf Club opening their doors to the top mid-amateurs in South Texas. This will be the first time to host a TGA regional championship for Grey Rock GC. Players can look forward to putting their skills on display in the Texas hill country as they battle for the South Mid-Amateur Championship title.

Designed by Jay Morrish, this 160 acre layout offers stunning views of the hill country terrain, along with beautiful oak trees that help shape Grey Rock GC. As a result of the outstanding work of Morrish, Grey Rock GC has received numerous awards, including “Best Golf Course in Austin – 2010” (Austin Young Chamber of Commerce) as well as being ranked among the “America’s Top Golf Courses – 2004-08” (Zagat Survey). Grey Rock GC has also been the home to the St. Edwards University Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams since 2005.

The format for the championship is a 54-hole individual stroke play with no cut. The South Mid-Amateur is open to male amateur golfers who are 25 years of age or older by the tournament start date and reside in the South Texas region (south of the 31’ parallel) with an index of 8.4 or less. Please reference “TGA Regional Tournament Eligibility” for additional details.

The 2012 South Mid-Amateur Championship was contested on the North Course at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio. Katy’s David Pocknall recorded a final round, and tournament best score, of 7-under 65 to run away with the championship. Pocknall registered seven birdies and zero bogeys in his final round to beat Mike Booker by six strokes.
