Four tied for the lead at the Texas Cup Invitational
BROOKELAND – Shiv Parmar of Selma, Coltrane Mittag of Ashland, Nebraska, Austin Hofferkamp of The Woodlands, and Houston’s Mason An are tied for the lead after the first round at the 2025 Texas Cup Invitational. The group tied at the top the crowded leaderboard separated themselves from the rest of the field after opening rounds of 3-under 67. Rayburn Resort is hosting the Legends Junior Tour for the first time with this year’s Texas Cup Invitational.
Parmar, the 2024 Texas Junior Amateur Champion, put together a solid opening which included six birdies and three bogeys. With two of his bogeys coming consecutively on the back nine on hole Nos. 15 and 16, Parmar was able to bounce back and make a birdie on the par 4 No. 18 to close out his round.
Mittag, the stand alone Nebraskan in the field, put together a strong first round when he started the day with a 1-under par 33 on his first nine before catching fire and making four birdies in his first five holes after the turn. He would later make a double bogey on the difficult par 4 No. 16 but regain his composure and finish his round with a pair of pars to remain tied for the lead.
Coming into the Texas Cup right off his runner-up finish at the 2025 Spring Preview is Hofferkamp who took a quick lead over the field in the First Round when he was 4-under par through his first seven holes before making a bogey on No. 9 to turn at 3-under. His last nine holes of the round would include a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys to finish at 3-under.
Of the four players tied at the top, An was the only player to tee off on No. 10 today which proved to be beneficial as he started the day with a birdie four on the par 5. He kept his first nine holes clean as he went bogey free and added another birdie to the card making four on the second par 5 of the side. After making the turn, An made a par on No. 1 before making three consecutive birdies on the second, third, and fourth holes. He would go on to make two bogeys in his final four holes to complete his opening round.
In a tight group tied for fifth and two shots behind the leaders are Mitchell Maier of Richmond, Collin Alstrin of Prosper, and Stone Fancher of Dallas. The trio is sitting at 1-under 69 after the first round. Maier is the defending Texas Cup champion winning last year at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club.
Nestled in the hills surrounding Lake Sam Rayburn, Rayburn Resort is a hidden gem. The 18-hole course features 150 feet of elevation change, along with new greens, tees, bunkers, and fairways designed to challenge golfers of all skill levels.
The front nine was designed in 1968 by Jay Riviere, known for contributions on the restoration of Memorial Park Golf Course, Jackrabbit Course at Champions Golf Club, and the design of Panorma Golf Club. This stretch features only one hole with water but compensates with tree lined fairways and strategically placed bunkering around the greens.
The back nine was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, whose portfolio includes Shady Oaks Country Club, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the Olympic Club Lake Course, and West Point Golf Course. This section of the course is characterized by four dog-leg holes and a tighter layout than the front nine.
Cooler weather with a foggy haze welcomed the players in the morning with temperatures in the mid 40’s. By the time all the players had started their round, temperatures rose into the mid-to-high 60’s with a light breeze and sunny skies.
No. 16 played as the toughest hole on the course with an average score of 4.68. The 457-yard par 4 is played through a tight tree lined corridor before players hit down towards the green with severe undulation. Missing the fairway or green can be costly on this demanding hole.
The official yardage for the First Round was 6,379 yards and played as a par 70.
The Texas Cup Invitational, the first of the two boys-only majors on the LJT annual schedule, is the LJT boy’s first 54-hole event of the year.
The Second Round of the Texas Cup Invitational is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 with tee times beginning at 8:30 AM. To see pairings, click here. To see all of the scores, click here.
