Four Teams Sit Atop Leaderboard at 2018 South Four-Ball
Round Rock – Four teams sit atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2018 South Four-Ball presented by Impact Precision Golf. It took a score of 3-under par, 69 to get grab a share of the overnight lead. The group of four teams is highlighted by the defending Champions Grant Schroeder and Sam Hochhauser. The first event of the 2018 South Regional Series is being contested at Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas.
Schroeder and Hochhauser, of Montgomery, started their round off with a bogey on the par four first, but they were able tobounce back quickly with a birdie on the par three third from Hochhauser. The duo closed out the front side with five pars and another birdie on the par three eight, to turn at 1-under par.
The momentum was carried over to the back side early when Hochhauser eagled the par five 10th. From there the team posted eight consecutive pars to finish the round with a 3-under par total of 69. The teams tied with our defending champions at the top of the leaderboard are Skorheim / Clarke, Graham / Antonelli and Almandoz / Lindsey.
Starting on the par five 10th, the team of Bill Skorheim, of Spring, and Ryan Clarke, of Houston, got the flat stick rolling early with a birdie on their opening hole, the par five 10th.. The team traded birdies on the par five 16th and par the four 18th respectively to make the turn at 3-under par. Back-to-back birdies on the par four fifth and sixth was the highlight of their opening round.
Braden Graham and Luke Antonelli, of San Antonio, started their round off with an opening birdie on the par four first and followed that up with eight pars going into the turn. On the back-side Graham and Antonelli made birdies on the par five 10th and par four 12th respectively. They kept the momentum going and finished with a bogey free opening round.
Zach Almandoz, of Houston, and Jackie Lindsey, of Cypress, capitalized on the par fives in their opening round with birdies on three of the four. The team had a lone bogey on the day on the par three 11th and bounced back immediately with a birdie on the par-four 12th.
Sitting one shot back of the leaders are the teams of Sanchez / Sanders and Lundquist / Achilles. Ed Sanchez, of San Antonio, and Joe Sanders, of Bee Cave, finished T2 at last year’s 2017 South Four-Ball. The team had four birdies on the day and are looking to carry that play into the final round tomorrow.
The final round has the makings of an exciting finish and will begin Sunday at 8:00 am of holes #1 and #10 at Teravista Golf Club. The leaders are scheduled to tee of at 9:10 and 9:20 am.
