Exciting Action Concludes Day One at the 26th Women’s Partnership Match Play

Briefly: The action came fast and furious Monday at White Bluff Resort’s New Course, as the 26th Women’s Partnership Match Play got underway with tight races and standout performances across all flights.
In Flight One, Camm Dougherty of Corpus Christi and Leslie McCallick of Horseshoe Bay wasted no time making their mark. The duo exploded out of the gate with 13 points in their first match and stayed strong with nine more in the afternoon to finish with 22 points. They’ll take a three-point lead into Tuesday’s matches, looking to hold off a hungry field.
Flight Two turned into a showcase for Julia Sedate of Dallas and Marna Raburn of Addison, who dominated the day with 26 points. After battling for 13 points, Sedate and Raburn pulled away with another 13 points in the afternoon to build a four-point lead over a skilled field.
In Flight Three, Claudia Willis and Dianne Dillard of Bryan made a big statement. The duo roared out with 14 points in the morning — the highest single-match score across all flights for the morning matches— to vault up the leaderboard. They backed it up with another strong showing, adding nine points in the afternoon to hold off the field. Willis and Dillard now carry a four-point cushion into Day 2.
Things are even tighter in Flight Four, where Jill Rizzo of College Station and Robin Bobbitt of Houston grabbed a narrow lead. Rizzo and Bobbitt got off to a slower start with six points in the first match. The team added an astounding 16 points — the biggest total from any team for the second matches. The pair’s one-point edge promises plenty of drama as the action continues.
The leaderboard in Flight Five is packed, with one team leading the charge by one point. Grace Ferguson of Spring Branch and Veronica Fair of Odem scored 18 points on the day to hold a narrow lead. Ferguson and Fair stayed consistent with nine points in each match.
The total points allocated across all the flights on Match Day 1 were 514 points. The course rating for this is 72.7, with the slope being 136.
Golf Course: White Bluff Resort’s New Course, located just a few miles from Lake Whitney in Whitney, Texas, was designed by Bruce Lietzke and opened in 1998. The New Course stretches more than 100 yards longer than the resort’s Old Course and, with a slope rating of 147 and a course rating of 75.5, is considered the more challenging of the two layouts. For Monday’s Matches One and Two, the course played at a total yardage of 5,305 yards.
Weather: Monday’s weather greeted players with temperatures in the low 70s, light winds, and partly cloudy skies. By midday, temperatures climbed into the low 80s, with cloud cover remaining and winds picking up to 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 22 mph.
