Bluebonnet Championship set for May 2-3

The Legends Junior Tour returns to action May 2–3 with the 2026 Bluebonnet Championship, marking its first event in more than a month and signaling the start of a highly anticipated summer stretch.

“We are excited to get things back underway,” said tournament coordinator Mollee-Jo Crain. “The players are eager to get back on the course and compete as they prepare for an exciting summer of events.”

Founded in 2002 by local businessman Bart Johnson, the Bluebonnet Championship is held annually at Brownwood Country Club. The event serves as the first of four invitationals on the Legends Junior Tour schedule and a key lead-in to major championships in June, including the 27th Huntington Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship and the 100th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf Shops.

Player of the Year points presented by Huntington Bank are on the line at the event.

“Getting the first invitational of the season underway is always special,” Crain said. “The players understand the significance of this event, not only for Player of the Year points but also for earning exemptions into upcoming championships.”

Brownwood Country Club, designed by Leon Howard in 1970, provides a challenging test for competitors. The par-72 course spans 6,547 yards and features a course rating of 72 and a slope of 123, with well-maintained fairways and strategically placed hazards.

Strong finishes at the Bluebonnet Championship carry significant rewards. In the Boys Division, the top three finishers will earn exemptions into the 27th Huntington Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship, the Texas Junior Amateur, the George Hannon Jr. Invitational, the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational and the 2027 Texas Cup Invitational.

In the Girls Division, the top five finishers will receive exemptions into the Texas Junior Amateur and the 2027 Texas Girls’ Invitational. The top two will also earn spots in the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational. The champion will additionally receive exemptions into the George Hannon Jr. Invitational and the Texas Women’s Open, scheduled for May 26–29 at Grapevine Golf Course.

The Boys 14-and-under champion will earn exemptions into the George Hannon Jr. Invitational, the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational and the 2027 Texas Cup Invitational.

Players competing in the Bluebonnet Championship will be automatically entered into a qualifier for the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championships being played in San Diego on July 7-9. Eligible divisions for the tournament are Boys 15-18, Boys 13-14, Boys 11-12, Girls 15-18, and Girls 13-14. For tournament information, click here
