Traditions Club Set to Host Fall Challenge
DALLAS – The Legends Junior Tour is excited to return to Traditions Club with the final open event of the 2017 season on Oct. 14-15. The Fall Challenge offers boys a last chance into the Texas Cup Invitational.
The Fall Challenge was created to satisfy the growing need for open events to junior golfers on the Legends Junior Tour. The Junior Golf Alliance, which is the alliance between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA along with the Houston Golf Association and the LJT, has grown in number of members each year since its creation.
The tournament will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play competition. The 84-player field will be split into three divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and Girls 12-18. Points towards the LJT Player of the Year standings as well as exemptions into future LJT Invitational Tournaments are up for grabs to the top finishers of the event. The event will be ranked by both Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Traditions Club is hosting its first LJT event since the 2013 Jackie Burke Cup. The club opened in 2004 and was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II. The par-72 layout can be stretched out more than 7,000 yards and maneuvers around majestic native hardwoods and rolling hillsides in the Brazos Valley.
This event is one of two new tournaments on the LJT schedule for 2017. The Alamo Shootout was added in June as a last-chance tournament into the Byron Nelson Junior Championship. Both tournaments offer players a chance to earn Player of the Year Points, which go towards the Jackie Burke Cup teams at the end of the year.
More than 150 players signed up to compete in the inaugural Fall Challenge at Traditions, making it one of the most popular open events on tour this season. Any Alliance Partner member has the ability to sign up to compete in open events on the LJT, but players that have proved themselves on the LJT and in Alliance Member events earn priority status into the field.
Tee times for the first round begin at 8:00 am off the No. 1 and 10 tees on Saturday. Final Round pairings will be redrawn according to first round scores and be tee times off the No. 1 and 10 tees on Sunday from 8:00 am – 10:00 am.
