Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational set for August 10-11
The Legends Junior Tour returns to UT Golf Club for the 2026 Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational presented by Texas Mutual, set for August 10-11.
The event, long known as the George Hannon Junior Invitational, now competes under a new name this year following the rebrand of the Hannon Cup Association to the Hannon-Fields Champions Society. The tournament remains one of the most popular stops on the schedule, bringing together the state’s top juniors before the fall portion of the season begins.
“We are excited to beheading back to UT Golf Club for another edition of this great tournament,” shared Tournament Manager Preston Vinzant. “We have had a lot of LJT players go on to play for the University of Texas and the combination of having this event as such a great venue with and great history makes the event special.”
Texas Mutual Insurance Company, one of the state’s leading workers’ compensation providers, continues its presenting sponsorship of the event for 2026.
George Hannon, born in Kemp, Texas, had a 59-year PGA career, including an 18-year term as the University of Texas men’s golf coach. In his 18 seasons leading the Longhorns, Hannon guided the program to 12 Southwest Conference titles and back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 1971 and 1972. He also coached Ben Crenshaw to two individual titles, in 1971 and 1973, and a shared championship with teammate Tom Kite in 1972.
Hannon’s teams featured future Tour players like Mark Brooks, Phil Blackmar, Brandel Chamblee, Rik Massengale and Paul Thomas, along with dozens of others who went on to become club professionals. Known for his balanced approach, Hannon emphasized both individual growth and team success, instilling in his players that even a tough round could still help the team.
The University of Texas Golf Club is a 7,412-yard, par-71 championship course designed by Bechtol Russell Golf Design. Located in the Texas Hill Country, the course offers views of Lake Austin and borders the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, providing both a stern test and one of the more scenic settings in Austin.
Established in 2009, the event is considered the tour championship for the Legends Junior Tour, with its elite field selected using the College Golf Camps of America points list. The tournament is run in partnership with the Hannon-Fields Champions Society and was created to honor Austin golf legend George “Coach” Hannon.
This year’s field will be capped at 90 players across the Boys, Girls and Boys 14 & Under divisions, contested over 36 holes of stroke play.
At the 2025 event, Kaden Frierson of Austin won the Boys Division title with a 7-under-par performance. In the Girls Division, Shyla Brown of Dallas claimed the title in dominant fashion in the Girls Division, and Austin Anderson of Gunter won the Boys 14 & Under Division in a playoff at 2-under, adding to his LJT resume.
The Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational is ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard, with the top half of each division earning points toward the LJT Player of the Year standings. Top finishers in the Boys 15-18 and Girls 12-18 divisions will also earn AJGA Performance Stars.
Players in the event are members of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance, a joint venture between the Texas Golf Association and the Southern and Northern Texas PGA sections, which provides junior golfers top-tier competition and a path to grow throughout their careers.
