The TGA is excited to announce a new partnership with the City of Grand Prairie that will enhance adaptive golf programming and opportunities for people with disabilities.

The partnership will make available the resources and facilities necessary to engage a greater number of people with disabilities and introduce them to the game of golf and the many social and mental health benefits associated with the sport, while fostering a vibrant and welcoming culture. The collaboration will play a pivotal role in championing accessibility and enabling individuals with cognitive, health, physical and sensory challenges to participate in the game and share in the joy and excitement golf provides with others.

“The TGA is delighted to be working together with the City of Grand Prairie to deliver enhanced adaptive golf programming for those who are interested in learning how to get started in the game, as well as emerging players looking for a space to develop and thrive,” said Kelly Kilgo, Managing Director of TGA Foundation/Outreach. “We know that the City shares the same core values of our Adaptive Golf Program that aims to advance opportunities for golfers with disabilities and will help to make this a very successful initiative.”

Ray Cerda, Director of The City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department, added, “Bringing adaptive golf programs to Grand Prairie is about more than just the game – it’s about accessibility, connection, and community. This partnership allows us to showcase how our facilities can serve all golfers while inspiring others to embrace the sport in new and meaningful ways. We’re thrilled to be part of something new, and as we like to say, we’re ‘Grand Prairie Proud!’”

As part of its support, the City will provide space at its Prairie Lakes Golf Course for the TGA to stage complimentary, one-hour group adaptive golf clinics in May and October. These inclusive sessions are open to individuals who have a physical, sensory or learning disability, no matter what their circumstances or golfing experience. The clinics will be led by certified adaptive golf coaches that will provide hands-on instruction tailored to the needs and abilities of the participants.

The first TGA Adaptive Golf Clinic will take place at Prairie Lakes Golf Course on Monday, May 12, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone with a disability who would like to take part in the session at Prairie Lakes, is encouraged to sign up using the link here.

“Holding these accessible adaptive golf clinics at Prairie Lakes, in partnership with the City of Grand Prairie, illustrates our shared commitment to making golf a fun and inclusive activity for everyone,” Kilgo said. “We want to reduce the barriers that prevent people from playing golf, and our clinics provide a relaxed environment to take this further. We encourage any individual with a physical, sensory, or learning disability to sign up for the sessions, have fun and learn from some great coaches.”

In addition to the clinics, the City will also make available the highly acclaimed Prairie Lakes Golf Course to serve as the host venue for the 2025 Texas Adaptive Golf Championship from Oct. 20-22. Established by the Fort Worth-based Texas Adaptive Golf Association in 2022, the Texas Adaptive Golf Championship has quickly developed into a premier competition on the adaptive golf schedule, annually attracting the best golfers with disabilities from across the country and around the world. Now in its fourth year, the TGA has been a proud supporter of this important championship from the outset, providing staff members, rules officials, and volunteers to assist with tournament administration.

“This partnership between the Texas Golf Association and the City of Grand Prairie is a game-changer for adaptive golf in our community,” Cerda said. “By hosting these clinics and the 2025 Texas Adaptive Golf Championship at Prairie Lakes Golf Course, we’re not only creating new opportunities for adaptive golfers but also fostering a more inclusive and welcoming golf environment for everyone.”
