Winter Classic to kick off 2025 Legends Junior Tour Season at Dallas Athletic Club
ADDISON – The Legends Junior Tour is set to kick off the 2025 season at one of Texas’ most prestigious golf clubs. Dallas Athletic Club’s Gold Course will host the Winter Classic on Jan. 18-19.
“We are excited to be back at Dallas Athletic Club to kick things off for the 2025 season,” said Legends Junior Tour Director Scott Davidson. “They have loved hosting this event through the years. Last year, we took the tournament to The Wilderness in Lake Jackson while D.A.C. completed its renovation of the Gold Course. We’re thrilled for the kids to experience the course after its renovation. It will be a great test of their skills.”
Located in East Dallas just off I-635, Dallas Athletic Club is recognized as one of the best clubs in Texas. Founded in 1919, the club initially proposed a downtown athletic facility led by T.L. Monagan and W.E. Greiner. In 1922, plans for a downtown building were approved, with the facility eventually opening in 1925. By 1944, D.A.C. expanded its offerings by purchasing land in East Dallas to add golf to its amenities.
At the time, the club acquired what was then known as Chapman Ranch, envisioning a 36-hole golf course designed by renowned architect Ralph Plummer. Plummer began his work in 1953, and in 1960, significant improvements were made to add elevation changes, enhancing the course’s design. The Gold Course officially opened in 1963 and immediately made its mark, hosting the PGA Championship where Jack Nicklaus won his first of five Wanamaker Trophies.
Since then, Dallas Athletic Club has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments. The U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship was held on the Gold Course in 1997, while the Texas Golf Association has run multiple major championships there, including the 2010 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play. The Blue Course has also hosted prestigious events, such as the Texas Amateur in 1992, 2003, and 2019, the Texas Women’s Amateur in 1981 and 2008, and several U.S. Open Final Stage Qualifiers.
At the 2024 Winter Classic held at The Wilderness in Lake Jackson, Shiv Parmar of Selma captured the Boys 15-18 Division title. Parmar, a Texas A&M commit, posted an impressive 70-66 for an 8-under total, winning by four strokes. Parmar went on to claim the 98th Texas Junior Amateur Boys 15-18 Division, an official USGA exemption event granting entry into the 77th U.S. Junior at Trinity Forest Golf Club. In the Girls 12-18 Division, Dresden Bounds of San Antonio earned the championship with rounds of 72-74 for a 2-over total. Evan Hofferkamp of The Woodlands claimed the Boys 14 & Under Division title with scores of 76-71, finishing 3-over and one stroke ahead of the field. Hofferkamp also won the 2024 James A. Ragan Memorial Boys 14 & Under Division.
The first round of the 2025 Winter Classic will begin on Jan. 18 at 8 a.m., with play starting from Nos. 1 and 10 tees. For more information on the Winter Classic, click here. For more information on Dallas Athletic Club, click here.
