James A. Ragan Memorial heads back to beautiful Corpus Christi Country Club 

ADDISON – The Legends Junior Tour James A. Ragan Memorial returns to Corpus Christi Country Club for the seventh time in the tournament’s history and the second consecutive year. One of the most cherished LJT tournaments will take place October 13-14. 

“We are excited to be heading back to Corpus Christi Country Club,” said Tournament Coordinator Preston Vinzant. “This tournament has a fantastic story behind it and is one that is held dearly to us. It’s always a great turnout for this tournament, and the staff and members at Corpus Christi CC welcome us back every time.” 

James Ragan was a former Legends Junior Tour player who was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer when he was just 13 years old. Ragan founded the Triumph Over Kids Cancer Foundation, which has raised more than $3 million for cancer research. 

James began playing on the Legends Junior Tour in 2008 and recorded three top-25 finishes. The Corpus Christi native won the 2010 Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic and earned a spot in the prestigious Jackie Burke Cup. That same year, he received the LJT’s first Sportsmanship Award, which was named in his honor the following year. James passed away in February 2014. 

Corpus Christi CC hosted this event from 2017 to 2021 and was James Ragan’s home course. In 2022, the tournament moved to Lozano Golf Center while Corpus Christi CC underwent renovations, but it has been held at Corpus Christi CC since then. 

In 2017, club member Ham Rogers spearheaded an effort to renovate the course. A vote was passed in 2021, and the project began in February 2022. 

Chet Williams Design was selected to complete the project. Williams has designed or renovated many notable courses, including Whispering Pines, Houston Oaks, Traditions Club at Texas A&M, Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, and Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue and Gold courses, among others. Additionally, Sanders Golf oversaw the construction of the project. 

In the 2023 James A. Ragan Memorial, Oklahoma State commit Jaxon Bandelier won the Boys 15-18 Division with a 36-hole total of 71-67—138, earning him a three-stroke victory. In the Boys 14-and-Under Division, Selma’s Aadi Parmar added another title to his impressive 2023 campaign, carding a 71-70—3 under to win by five strokes. In the Girls 12-18 Division, Austin’s Isabel Emanuels finished with a 72-73—145, winning by five strokes as well. 

The James A. Ragan Memorial is a 36-hole stroke play event for players ages 12-18 with active memberships in the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The 84-player field is divided into Boys, Girls, and Boys 14-and-under divisions.
