Yvonne Holds Her Lead After Carding a 71 in Round Two, Dupre Joins the Pack at the Top
In round two, Yvonne Chamness of Austin, Texas held her lead while carding a 71 to move her overall score to 6 under. With a little bit of rough start, she flipped a switch going into her second 9, allowing her to maintain top position on the leaderboard.
“I made 4 birdies in the first 6 holes of my back nine, I just had to stay patient,” Yvonne said.
In her interview yesterday she emphasized being patient and letting the game come to her. This piece of her game plan was demonstrated today as she was 2 over on the front 9 and flipped it around heading onto hole one of her back 9.
Along with her consistent all around striking, she mentioned in her interview that her “putting was good all day”. This likely played an important factor in shooting -3 though 6 holes.
Especially as she wasn’t as consistent off the tee as she would have liked, leading to tough rough conditions. Yvonne said, “If you miss a fairway out her, you’re usually under a tree, which made it hard.”
Savannah Dupre however is not far behind after shooting a round 2 field low of 68. This puts her only 2 back from Yvonne leading to an exciting final round tomorrow.
“I hit a couple good drives, a little bit better than yesterday, made a few more putts, and a couple close iron shots,” Dupre said.
A little bit of everything was clicking for Savannah which ultimately led to her great round.
Heading into tomorrow, her gameplan is to “stay patient, not force anything and have fun”.
With similar mindsets from both Yvonne and Savannah, we can expect for a battle between the two or maybe and underdog who comes from behind.
