Women’s Partnership Match Play Heads to Walden on Lake Conroe
MONTGOMERY – The 23rd annual Women’s Partnership Match Play is slated for April 4-6 at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club.
This year, the event will be played in a match play format. It was previously played in a quota format and named the Women’s Partnership. The Women’s Partnership Match Play will be contested over 54 holes of net Four-Ball Match Play. Two competitors play as partners in a match against another two-woman team with each golfer playing her own ball. The tournament will feature a 45 team field of 90 total players.
The teams are pre-flighted into eight divisions based on the combined team handicap index. Maximum spread of partners’ index of 8.0 will be used for the purpose of creating flights and scoring. The four teams eliminated in the first round of each flight will proceed to a consolation match play bracket.
The March 30 WHS Handicap Index will be used for flights and scoring.
Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club was originally designed and built in 1976 by Robert Von Hagge and former PGA Tour player Bruce Devlin. It’s a private golf club that is open to residents and non-residents. The course features Tifeagle greens, large pines, and pristine bunkers amidst ancient oak trees. At 6,756 yards and par-72 the course will be fun and provide a good challenge to some of the state’s best women.
Last year, in its previous quota format, the tournament was held at Riverhill Country Club, where Mary Dees and Emilie Wilshire won the overall championship for the first time with 25 total points.
The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. Margaret Bosman and Lorraine Werner won in 2019 at Golfcrest Country Club; Camm Dougherty and Leslie McCallick won back-to-back titles in 2017-18.
The first round of the Women’s Partnership Match Play begins at 8 a.m. on April 4. The final round is scheduled for at 8 a.m. on April 6. Once all matches are complete, awards will be handed out to the top finishers.
