Wilshire and Dees Lead the Women’s Partnership

BRIEFLY: Emilie Wilshire and Mary Dees of Houston and Cypress respectively, lead the Women’s Partnership after Monday’s first round with a quota score of 18. The Women’s Partnership, a team quota event, is being contested in Kerrville at Riverhill Country Club. Wilshire and Dees currently hold a two point lead over Horseshoe Bay’s Janice Koenig and Suzanna Knudson heading into Tuesday’s final round. In addition to battling for an Overall Championship, the Women’s Partnership will crown winners in each of the five flights.

GOLF COURSE: Designed by close friends Joe Finger and Byron Nelson in 1974, Riverhill Country Club’s 18-hole course is a premier location for golf in Texas and the United States. Based in the heart of Hill Country, the course boasts its rare bent-grass greens and a 7,137 yard, 72-par challenge featuring scenic creeks, hills and a lake throughout the property.  Over time, the course became Nelson’s favorite, where he was quoted saying, “If I had only one golf course to play, it would be Riverhill.”

WEATHER: Players started the morning in cool and overcast conditions. After the clouds cleared and the sun came out in the afternoon, temperatures rose from the mid 60’s into the upper 80’s by the end of the day.

IN CONTENTION: The team of Trevino/Ramirez lead the first flight with 9 points.  Sitting one point back is the team of Turnage/Scaggs at 8 points. Rounding out the first flight’s top three is the team of Gilkeson/Alexander, who posted 7 points in the first round. The second flight is led by Guynes/Henry with a score of 12. They are followed closely by the team of Jones/Gibson at 10 points, and Trichell/Livingston at7 points. After finishing with 13 points today, the Robertson/Youngs team holds a one point lead over the team of Conner/Chandler in the third flight. Leading the fourth flight is the team of Koenig/Knudson with 16 points. The Biggs/Hamilton and Armstrong/Mayfield teams are both tied for second with 15 points each. The fifth flight, as well as the overall leaderboard, is lead by the Wilshire/Dees team with 18 points in the first round. The team of Candelet/Gebert currently sits in second with 14 points.

WHAT’S NEXT: Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8 AM with tee times off #1. Following play, there will be a brief awards presentation for the Overall Champion and Flight Winners.
