Two Teams Tied for Lead after Round 1 of Women’s Four-Ball Championship

AUSTIN – Evelyn Argulles of San Antonio and Hanna Harrison of Plano share the 2017 Women’s Four-Ball Championship lead with the Austin duo of Ann Parmerter and Lauren Comegys at 5-under-par 67 after the first round concluded Monday at The Hills Country Club.

Both teams hold a one-shot lead over Camm Doughtery of Corpus Christi and Carol Turnage of Anna headed into Tuesday’s final round.

With home course knowledge, Comegys and Parmerter counted six birdies throughout their round and just one bogey on the dogleg par-5 ninth hole. The team displayed steady golf throughout the back nine and came home with an impressive 3-under 33.

Teammates at Dallas Baptist University, Arguelles and Harrison started their round with five straight pars and a birdie on the sixth hole. They finished the front nine with a 1-under 36. The duo fired a 4-under 32 on the back nine. The team birdied both back-nine par 3s, the 12th and 14th holes.

There are a total of five flights in this year’s tournament. Leading the second flight with a score of 2-over par is a three-way tie between the teams of Julie Buechner of Fort Worth and Sarah Deering of Austin, Lisa Beck of Dallas and Carolyn Creekmore of Midland, and Ashley Hawkins and Krista Newman-Manning of Fort Worth. Sitting atop of the leaderboard of Flight 3 is Dot Lovett of Georgetown and Linda Lowery of Pflugerville with a one stroke lead going into the final round. Tani Traver of Sealy and Patricia Walters of Montgomery shot a 7-over 72 to lead Flight 4. Flight 5 is led by Joanne Burleson of Southlake and Linda Edwards of Waxahachie by three strokes.

The Four-Ball Championship is two-day team event. Each player players her own ball and the lower score of the partners is the team score for the hole. The 50 team field was pre-flighted by handicap index into five flights. All teams are competing within their flights and for the title of Overall Gross.
