The Texas Golf Association has officially reached 200,000 members. It’s a milestone that reflects more than just growth, it’s a celebration of the volunteers, supporters, and Gallery Club members who help create meaningful experiences for golfers across Texas every day.

Every championship played. Every GHIN® Handicap Index® calculated. Every course rating completed. Every member experience delivered.

These moments don’t happen by accident.

Behind each moment is a community of dedicated volunteers whose passion for the game of golf helps the association serve golfers across Texas every day. As a Gallery Club Member, you’re part of that community, helping make these experiences possible through your support.

Reaching 200,000 members isn’t simply about growth, it’s about expanding the TGA’s ability to serve golfers, support our member clubs, and strengthen the game across the state.

Championship Volunteers

Whether serving as starters, scorers, or rules officials, championship volunteers are the backbone of TGA competitions. Their commitment helps thousands of golfers enjoy professionally conducted championships each year while preserving the integrity and traditions of our favorite game.

That sense of purpose is what has kept Pam Murray volunteering with the TGA for 27 years. Her commitment was recognized with the Bob Wells Distinguished Service award, presented to volunteers whose exceptional service and dedication have left an impact on the TGA and across the game of golf in Texas.

Every successful championship event reflects the dedication of our volunteers who generously give their time to ensure each event is conducted with the highest standards of the game of golf.

Course Rating Volunteers

Many golfers throughout the state rely on their GHIN Handicap Index without ever considering who or what makes it possible.

Behind every Handicap Index is an accurate Course Rating™ and Slope Rating®. These teams travel across our state, evaluating golf courses and collecting information to ensure handicaps remain accurate and equitable for all Texas golfers.

Every score posted by a TGA member depends on the work of course rating volunteers. Their efforts ensure golfers across Texas compete on a level playing field, whether they’re playing at home or across the state.

More Than a Number

Reaching 200,000 members wasn’t accomplished by one TGA department or program. It reflects a collective effort of golfers, member clubs, golf professionals, staff, and of course, our volunteers.

For many volunteers, giving back is simply a way to thank the game that has given them so much.

Steve Suhey, a volunteer for 10 years, explains it this way: “Because of what golf has given me over the years, this is my way of giving back. I learn something at every tournament I officiate and every meeting I attend. And like the game of golf itself, you keep learning and learning and learning and it never stops throughout your life”

As Chuck Flowers says: “I like being a part of an organization like the TGA that strives for excellence and being able to help an organization like that.”

And along the way volunteers often discover something they weren’t expecting.

As Tom Wohlgemuth puts it: “The majority of people in golf are very friendly. They’re so accepting of other people, and we have built many friendships along the way.”

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also celebrating the people behind it, the volunteers who generously give their time, expertise, and passion to make golf better for every TGA member.

Behind every TGA member is someone who chose to give back to the game they love.
