The 2024 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship (The Spirit), a premier event which brings together the leading men and women amateur golfers from around the world, returns to Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity from Nov. 12-16.

After taking a year off, the biennial event is back and will feature a stellar field of 80 players from 20 countries. Each country is represented by two women and two men amateur golfers who will play 54 holes of four-ball stroke play with three concurrent competition categories: International Team, Men’s Team, and Women’s Team. Gold, Silver and Bronze commemorative medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

The four players who will represent the USA in the 2024 Spirit are David Ford, of Peachtree Corners, Ga., Tommy Morrison, of Dallas, Texas, Jasmine Koo, of Cerritos, Calif., and Asterisk Talley, of Chowchilla, Calif.

Spirit alum Nathan Smith, of Pittsburg, Pa., will captain the USA Team this year. A four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion, Smith won three gold medals at the 2011 Spirit, including Individual Men’s, Men’s Team, and International Team. Smith will be assisted by Alli Jarrett, of Houston. Smith succeeds Stacey Lewis as captain of the USA Team. Lewis served as captain in 2019 and 2021, leading the USA Team to the 2019 Men’s Team Championship and 2021 International Team and Women’s Team Championships.

Over the years, The Spirit has been a proving ground for the world’s top-ranked amateur players with many going on to find success on professional tours. Notable past Spirit contestants include Scottie Scheffler, Rose Zhang, Jordan Spieth, Lorena Ochoa, Jason Day, Lexi Thompson, Francesco Molinari, Paula Creamer, Will Zalatoris, and many others.

The Spirit Golf Association, a non-profit charity dedicated to the promotion of amateur golf for the benefit of health-related causes, organizes and oversees the tournament along with the Texas Golf Association.

The 2024 Spirit International kicks off with an opening ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Practice rounds are Wednesday, Nov. 13 before three days of competition begin on Thursday, Nov. 14.
