Texas Super Senior Added To 2015 Men’s Schedule

The Texas Golf Association is pleased to announce the addition of a new event on the men’s annual schedule. Starting in 2015, the Texas Super Senior will be conducted as a new stand-alone statewide championship for male senior amateurs over the age of 65.

The inaugural championship will be held March 10-12 on the Live Oak Course at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club, located northwest of San Antonio.

The format is 54 holes of individual stroke play with no cut.  Two age divisions will be competing for separate titles: Super Senior (65 or older as of tournament start date) and Legends (75 or older as of tournament start date).

“The addition of the Texas Super Senior reflects the Association’s continued commitment to our talented senior amateurs by giving them the spotlight so they can showcase their skills,” said Ryan Finn, Managing Director of TGA Championships. “The event will be conducted in the same first-class manner as all our statewide tournaments in order to create a true championship experience for our players, volunteers and host club.

Designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby, the Live Oak course opened for play in 1978. The course underwent a substantial renovation in 2006, which was overseen by Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design. The Live Oak Course will provide a stern challenge for the state’s best seniors with its with tree-lined fairways, natural water hazards, and large, undulating greens.

Registration for the Texas Super Senior opened on January 28 and will close on March 3. Players are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to strengthen their chances of playing.
