Briefly: The South Team continued its dominant play at the 23rd Texas Shootout to defeat the North Team. After taking a large lead in the Saturday Foursome and Four-Ball matches, the South Team grabbed more than half of the available points on Sunday. The early performance by South Team’s Casey Carnes and Chris Minton helped propel the South Team victory as they each grabbed all three points available, respectively. Chris Minton went on the grab a total of 8.5 points out of 9 throughout the weekend.

Golf Course: It all started with a vision by Ralph Fair Sr. back in the early 1900s to create a thriving community. By the 1970s, Ralph Fair Jr. transformed the vast piece of land into a premier residential community and a golf course. Designed by one of golf greats, Gary Player not only designed the challenging layout of Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club, but to also show off its stunning scenery and welcoming atmosphere. The club now offers two premier 18-hole golf courses, the Blackjack Course and Live Oak. The 23rd Texas Shootout is being played on the par-72 Blackjack Course.

Weather: Competitors battled strong North winds between 15-20 with gusts up to 30 mph. When the first singles matches begun, the temperature was in the high 50s before reaching a high of 65 by 1 o’clock.

Saturday Foursome Matches: Foursome matches kicked off with the South Team taking a commanding lead. The South Team took 16.5 of the available 18 points while five of the six matches sweep their opponents for the full three points provided by Nassau Scoring. The only points the North Team were able to collect were from Match #1 where they split 1.5-1.5 points.

Saturday Four-Ball Matches: The South Team opened up the afternoon Four-Ball matches leading the first two matches. After losing all available points in the morning Foursome matches, North Team Senior matches were able to win both matches in the afternoon to secure six points.  With a commanding lead after the morning Foursome Matches, the South Team was able to main a heavy lead going into Sunday Singles.

Sunday Single Matches: The South Teams performance continued strong as they grabbed 7.5 points of the available 9 in the first three matches. Chris Minton, of Houston, was able to clean sweep Plano’s Harrison Mahon after shooting 3-under through 14 holes before Minton closed him out on the par-4 16th. This point by Minton sealed the victory for the South Team. South Team Captain, John Pierce, continued his strong play earning 2 points in the Sunday Singles. This Texas Shootout was Pierce’s 4th time captaining the South Texas Team. After finishing his Saturday Four-Ball with a 40-foot bomb on the 18th green to half the match, Chris Bailey used that momentum to grab 2 points over the South Team’s Michael Carnes.
