Sandra Haynie Honored at LPGA Founders Cup
DALLAS—The honors continue to stack up for World Golf Hall of Fame member Sandra Haynie of Fort Worth. Earlier this year, the TGA announced the four-time major champion will be one of four esteemed panelists at the Breaking 100 Gala on Nov. 1 at Houston Country Club , which will be the grand finale to a yearlong celebration of a century of Women’s Golf in Texas. Haynie also will be honored this week for her illustrious career at the LPGA Tour’s JTBC Founders Cup event in Phoenix.
Haynie joins Shirley Englehorn and Jan Stephenson as Founders Cup honorees at JW Marriott’s Wildfire Club. The Founders Cup is a tournament designed to honor the original founders of the LPGA Tour. Before Haynie joined the tour and won 42 titles and four majors, she won consecutive WTGA State Amateur Championships in 1959-60. Those victories capped off a brilliant amateur career that included Texas Women’s Publinx titles in 1957-58 and the Trans-Mississippi championship in 1960.
Haynie always has been among golf’s royalty, and that tradition continues with the Breaking 100 celebration on Nov. 1.
She’ll join Kathy Whitworth, Sandra Palmer and Carol Mann in a unique panel discussion at Houston CC moderated by Sugar Land’s Deb Vangellow, the President of the LPGA Teaching & Club Pro Division. Whitworth, from the small West Texas town of Monahans, holds the professional record for most wins with 88, which includes six major titles. Mann, from The Woodlands, won 38 times and owns two major championships. Along with Haynie, Whitworth and Mann are members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Fort Worth’s Palmer won 19 professional tournaments and is a member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
