Round Two of Collegiate Preview Suspended Due to Weather
Briefly: Eileen Lee, from Plano, leads the Girls Division of the Legends Junior Tour Collegiate Preview after firing rounds of 70 and 71. Kingwood’s Corrington Case leads the Boys Division after today’s play, shooting 65 and 71.
Leaders: Plano’s Eileen Lee set the pace in the girls division, leading after both the first and the second round. After bogeying her first hole of the day, Lee had a pretty back and forth day. Through her 36 holes played, Lee only had 19 pars. Eight bogeys and nine birdies, however, has her sitting at 1-under par, leading her division by four strokes. In the boys division, Corrington Case continued his week of stellar golf. Last week, he medaled in the Texas Junior Amateur Qualifier held at Westridge GC with an 8-under round of 64. Today, he started with a clean 6-under round of 65, and followed it up with an even par round of 71. When asked what went well today, he said his irons were on fire in the first round. He was sticking everything close. His second round, however, was his scrambling. On his back nine, he said, “I made almost every up and down I had… My putting inside of 10 feet was the best part of my day,”. Case only had one bogey over today’s 36 holes, and leads by a shot.
In Contention: In the boys division, Austin McCollum (F) and Jacob Baker (thru 16) are tied for second at 5-under. Matthew Lewis (thru 17) and Tyson Embry (F) reside at solo 4th and solo 5th sitting at 4-under and 3-under, respectively. In the girls division, Adrielle Miller holds solo 2nd after rounds of 71 and 74, sitting four shots behind the lead. Aubrie Nolen and Gracie Kent both shot rounds of 75 and 72, leaving them in a tie for 3rd. Annika Shetty rounds out the top five at 6-over total.
Golf Course: Founded in 1914, Wichita Falls Country Club carries a rich history rooted in the city’s early development and ties to the oil boom. Originally established as Wichita Falls Golf Club with a nine-hole course, the club faced financial struggles during the Great Depression before being reorganized. A pivotal figure in its revival was Solon Featherston, who purchased the club and led significant improvements. The club has hosted numerous TGA and USGA qualifiers, as well as notable TGA events including multiple Father-Son Championships, three Texas Amateurs, and the 1989 Texas Mid-Amateur. Wichita Falls Country Club is also set to host the 43rd Texas Mid-Amateur presented by Hytera US in 2026.
Weather: Round one opened on a warm morning, with temperatures in the low-80’s for the first tee time. Temperatures ramped up to the mid-90’s as players completed their first round and stayed there throughout the second round. Late in the day, a storm rolled through the area, and play was suspended for the day with five groups total still on the course.
Tournament Format: The Collegiate Preview is a 54-hole stroke-play event for players ages 14-19 that have an active membership with the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The event is divided into two divisions: Boys and Girls.
