Leaders: Isaac Diaz of Del Rio and Ryan (Woojin) Lee of College Station both shot impressive 68s to open Spring Preview at Rayburn Resort.  The Boys Division produced just three scores under par during round one as the course showed its teeth to the field.  Diaz played a nearly perfect round carding four birdies with a lone bogey coming on the par 4 10th hole. Lee’s day was much more eventful adding plenty of colors to his scorecard, after opening his round with a par Lee proceeded to birdie holes 2 and 3 and followed that up with an eagle on the par 5 4th hole.  Lee would finish the front 9 four-under-par.  On the back 9 Lee would birdie 10 but finish with bogeys on two of the final four holes.  In the Girls 12-18 Division Muci Guo of Bellaire opened her round with steady golf making three pars to start her day.  She would finish the front nine at even par.  Heading into 18 she was three-over-par for her round. The par 4 18th hole would provide some fireworks however, Guo holed out for eagle to snag a one-stroke lead over the rest of the field before Shields-Rodipe made birdie on 17 to meet her atop the leaderboard.  Aleah Shields-Rodipe of Conroe played some resilient golf throughout her first round, after a bogey on her opening hole and two more on holes 5 and 7 she birdied hole 9 for a spark before the turn.  On the back nine Shields-Rodipe carded three more birdies on 11, 14, and 17 but a double bogey on 12 has her tied with Guo heading into Sunday.  In the Boys 14 & Under Division no one in the tournament enjoyed Rayburn Resort more than Celina’s Wyatt Brindza he blitzed the front nine to open his round making birdie on 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9.  At one point Brindza had his round at seven-under-par.  His round would finally cool off on the last 3 holes finishing his day at four-under-par.

In Contention: In the Boys Division Vincent Porras of New Braunfels lead for a majority of the first round ending his day at one-under par 70.  Porras played some stellar golf throughout his round making eagle on hole 4 and carding birdies on 10 and 14.  Tripp Depoy of The Woodlands and Jake Knobler of Sugar Land round out the top five in the Boys Division sitting at even-par 71.  Depoy opened his day on the back nine finishing one-over-par, his front nine was superb eight pars and one birdie for a clean front nine.  Knobler’s day was much more eventful matching four bogeys with four birdies. In the Girls 12-18 Division Jacqueline Zhuang sits solo third after her opening round two-over 74.  Zhuang was tied atop the leaderboard before a late bogey on 17.  Also in the top five are Elizabeth Bellendir of Coppell and Daniela Sitompul of McKinney both at four-over-par 76.  In the Boys 14 & Under Division, five players sit six shots back of the lead, Isaiah Diaz, Lincoln Rubis, Theodore Lieu, Beckett McLaughlin, and Cole Murphy.

Weather: Temperatures were moderate in the morning sitting in the low to mid 60s, afternoon temperatures reached a high of 79.

Host Course: Nestled in the hills surrounding Lake Sam Rayburn, Rayburn Resort is a hidden gem. The 18-hole course features 150 feet of elevation change, along with new greens, tees, bunkers, and fairways designed to challenge golfers of all skill levels.  The front nine was designed in 1968 by Jay Riviere, known for contributions on the restoration of Memorial Park Golf Course, Jackrabbit Course at Champions Golf Club, and the design of Panorama Golf Club. This stretch features only one hole with water but compensates with tree lined fairways and strategically placed bunkering around the greens.  The back nine was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, whose portfolio includes Shady Oaks Country Club, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the Olympic Club Lake Course, and West Point Golf Course. This section of the course is characterized by four dog-leg holes and a tighter layout than the front nine.
