Ramirez Takes Early Lead at 35th Women’s Senior Stroke Play
CONROE — Claudia Ramirez takes the early lead at the 35th Women’s Senior Stroke Play after firing a first round score of 6-over 79 on Monday at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club. Ramirez holds a three shot lead over Maura Price of The Woodlands heading into Tuesday’s second round.

Leaders: In Monday’s first round, San Antonio’s Claudia Ramirez rolled in three birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 1-under par 35. Ramirez is not shy of being out front, as she claimed first place in Flight 1 at the 2024 Women’s Stroke play at The Woodlands Country Club. Sitting three shots back, Maura Price Beck put herself in a great position heading into Tuesday. The Woodlands native carded two birdies that came on the Par-5 9th and Par-3 14th. In solo third and four shots back of Ramirez, is Marna Raburn, who also carded two birdies on her opening nine.
Flights Division Update: In the Flights Division, Dallas’ Jan Rapp took the early seven shot lead by shooting a first round 5-over 78. Sitting in second is Universal City’s Nanette Hall who carded a 12-over 85. Houston’s Pam Almandoz sits in solo third at 13-over par, 86.
Founders Cup: The Woodlands Country Club took home this year’s Founders Cup. The Founders Cup is awarded to the club with the two lowest combined net scores from Round 1. Representing The Woodlands Country Club was Maura Price, Margaret Bosman and Lorraine Werner. The club posted a net score of 6-over for Round 1.
Course: Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, located an hour north of Houston, opened in 1976. Designed by Robert Van Hagge and Bruce Devlin, the course features towering trees and winding fairways, making every shot crucial. Due to its prestige, Walden has hosted significant events, including the TGA South Amateur Championship, Women’s Texas Cup, and PGA Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School.
Tournament Info: The Women’s Senior Stroke Play is in its 35th year on the schedule and is the second to last championship for the women on the 2024 TGA schedule. Mina Hardin captured the victory last year at Bentwood Country Club. The championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition. The 16 players with the lowest handicap indexes at the Women’s Senior Stroke Play will be required to play from the Championship Tees. All other players may select which tees they wish to play from – the Championship Tees or the Flights Tees. Upon completion of Round 2, the flights division will be broken into flights based on 36-hole scores.
POY Points Race: Player of the Year points will be awarded to the top ten finishers of the championship division for the Senior Player of the Year race. The champion will earn 500 points towards the honor followed by 450 for runner-up, 400 for third, 350 for fourth and 300 for fifth.
What’s Next: Round 2 will tee off at 9:00 AM on Tuesday morning. After this, two more events remain on the TGA’s schedule for the women in 2024. The final Saturday Series of the year will be November 9th at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco. The Women’s Texas Pinehurst will take place on Nov. 11-12 at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls.
