Peck and Bonneau Set for Final Match

BRYAN – Thirteenth-seeded Mike Peck from Irving on Saturday
knocked off the ninth seed, South Mid-Amateur Champion Tony Soerries, 3 and 1,
to advance to the finals at the State Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship at
Traditions Club.

 

Houston’s Jess Bonneau, the 2011 Mid-Amateur Match Play
Champion, won the other semifinal match Saturday afternoon. He beat Randy
Lance, the 11th seed from The Woodlands, 3 and 2. Peck and Bonneau square off
for the championship Sunday at 7:30 a.m.

 

Peck birdied the ninth hole to go 1 up. He never trailed
Soerries again. Bonneau lost the first three holes to Lance, but battled back
to get all square after the 11th hole. Bonneau won the 12th and 13th to go 2 up
and closed Lance out on the 16th hole.

 

During Saturday morning’s quarterfinals, two matches went
the full 18 holes. Sorries defeated Kris Devlin, and Lance knocked out Michael
Pruitt. Also in morning play, Bonneau, upset the second-seeded Nathaniel James,
2 up. Peck took down Aaron Hickman, 3 and 2, in the quarterfinals.
