Parmar Wins the 98th Texas Junior Amateur Boys 15-18 Division

WHITNEY – Shiv Parmar of Selma won the 98th Texas Junior Amateur Boys 15-18 Division. Parmar carded a final round 3-under 69 to finish the tournament with a 6-under 210 total.

A day that started with rain and five hours of delayed starting times ended in triumph for Parmar at White Bluff Resort.

“I feel great and relieved,” shared Parmar, a Texas A&M golf commit.

Parmar entered the day five strokes back from the leader, Gavin Hymer of San Antonio. In the final round, Parmar began with two bogeys in the first four holes, putting himself in a tough yet possible position to make a comeback.

“Again, one, two, and three are just the worst holes for me,” mentioned the Selma native.

Parmar continued his round with a birdie on No. 5, followed by a bogey on No. 6 and another birdie on No. 7. He headed into the final nine holes needing to make one last push for the title.

“On the back nine, I was able to make a lot of birdies, hit close shots, and knock down some putts.”

Parmar did exactly that, going bogey-free on the back nine, which included back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 and again on Nos. 16 and 17. He approached the 18th hole unaware that he held a two-shot lead over the field but focused on finishing strong after an incredible back nine.

“Well, to be honest, I couldn’t look at the leaderboard on my phone because it wouldn’t load, but I was able to check in once,” the senior joked. “I think by the 18th tee box, I knew I had it, and if I could hit the fairway, it would be pretty hard to throw it away from there.”

Parmar brings home his first Legends Junior Tour major championship and his second title of the season after winning the Winter Classic in January.

With the win, Parmar will be exempt from multiple LJT events, including the 26th Veritex Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship. He will also be exempt for the 77th U.S. Junior Championship at Trinity Forest Golf Club, following the USGA’s announcement that the Texas Junior Amateur is an official exemption event.

The runner-up was Adam Villanueva of Kenedy. The skilled senior and 2024 George Hannon Invitational champion carded a 3-under 69 to finish the tournament at 4-under 212.

Finishing in a tie for third were Matt Pawly of San Antonio and Isaiah Igo of Sundown. Pawly shot a final round 3-under 69, while Igo finished with a 1-under 71, both ending the tournament at 3-under 213.

Rounding out the top five was Gavin Hymer of San Antonio. The talented sophomore finished with a 2-under 214 and looks to continue his strong play in upcoming Boys 15-18 Division tournaments.

The Legends Junior Tour extends its sincere appreciation to the staff and members of White Bluff Resort, as well as the volunteers, for their integral role in making the 98th Texas Junior Amateur a memorable and successful event.

Next for the Legends Junior Tour is the Fall Challenge at Nutcracker Golf Course in Granbury on Sept. 28-29.
