Parel said her putter was her savior today as it helped her drop six birdies and save countless pars to give her a one-stroke lead at 6-under-par. She’s learned that the best way to hold on to a lead is to forget about it.

“I told myself this morning that today was a new day,” said the HBU commit. “I told myself, ‘You know you’re leading, but act like you’re not.’”

Bentley Cotton and Jensen Jalufka, who are both from Austin, are sitting one shot behind Parel tied for second at 5-under-par.

Cotton’s second round 5-under 67 was her first ever bogey-free round.

“I had a plan to hit fairways and greens today and my putts just started to drop,” said the Baylor commit. “I have the same plan for tomorrow and hopefully my putts continue to drop.”

Lake Travis’ Macy Fox is in fourth place at 4-under par after shooting 3-under in her second round. Madelyn Jones of Austin is in fifth place at 2-under. Kaylee Vesely of Austin, Eubin Shim of Waco, and Leah Alberto of Kingwood are all tied for sixth at 1-under-par.

Calynne Rosholt of Cedar Park shot 4-under in her second round without her own putter. She forgot her putter at home this week and is borrowing an old one from the golf course. Rosholt is tied for eighth at even par.

One of these girls will leave tomorrow a Texas Junior Amateur Champion with their name alongside Angela Stanford who has won 5 LPGA tournaments, Kelsey Vines who played professionally, A&M University stand-out Courtney Dow, and Annika Clark who won the Women’s Texas Amateur in 2015.

Horseshoe Bay Resort is hosting the Texas Junior Amateur for the eighth time in the last nine years. The event moved to The Woodlands Country Club for 2016, but has returned to the renovated Slick Rock Golf Course. Slick Rock was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and features more than 70 bunkers and 12 water hazards including the water fall on the par-4 14th.

The final round of the Texas Junior Amateur begins Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. For more information, click here.
