
Oklahoma Wins 2nd Red River Cup
Wichita Falls, TX. – Oklahoma dominates singles matches to retain the Red River Cup, 48.5-32.5.
For the second year, the Texas Golf Association and Oklahoma Golf Association came together to build two 18-player teams featuring eight mid-amateurs, six senior amateurs and four women amateurs to square off.
The annual event features a total of 27 matches each worth three points. On Monday, the teams competed in Four-Ball Match Play, where Texas took a 14.5-12.5 lead. 54 points were up for grabs in Tuesday’s singles matches. Oklahoma Golf Association made a statement by winning 36 of those points and leave Wichita Falls Country Club up 2-0 overall in the Red River Cup versus Texas.
John Pierce of San Antonio, Greg Galasso of Dripping Springs and Casey Carnes of Schertz were the lone Texans to sweep their 18-hole match on Tuesday. John Schaefer of Plano won his match while collecting 2 out of 3 points. For the Oklahoma Golf Association the scoreboard was lit up blue throughout the day with twelve of the eighteen matches resulting in wins for their team.
Wichita Falls Country Club is located in Wichita Falls, TX. The course is located just 25 minutes south of Oklahoma, a perfect location for an event pitting Texas against Oklahoma. The par-72 layout renovated in 2008 by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard features Bermuda fairway and bent grass greens, Wichita Falls Country Club was a great test of golf for the 2nd Red River Cup and the first time Texas has hosted the event.
The matches will head back to Oklahoma in 2026 as the Oklahoma Golf Association will host the 36-player event again at the The Territory Golf & Country Club in Duncan, Okla. The teams will be determined using Statewide and Senior Player of the Year Standings from Men’s and Women’s events.
