North Texas Classic Set for Sept. 12-13 at Cedar Crest Golf Course

The Legends Junior Tour returns to Dallas for the North Texas Classic, set for Sept. 12-13 at the historic Cedar Crest Golf Course. A field of 120 players will compete over 36 holes of stroke play across three divisions: Boys, Boys 14 & Under and Girls.

As the Legends Junior Tour season continues to wind down, the North Texas Classic provides another opportunity for some of the state’s top junior golfers to compete for a championship and valuable Player of the Year points. With players representing different age groups and regions from across Texas, the two-day event will showcase the depth of talent throughout the LJT.

“We are excited to return to Cedar Crest Golf Course for another year of the North Texas Classic,” said P.J. Boatwright Intern Caleb Walker. “Cedar Crest has a tremendous history and provides a great test for our players across all three divisions. We are grateful for the opportunity to once again bring some of the top junior golfers in Texas to such a historic venue.”

Cedar Crest Golf Course holds a distinguished place in Texas golf history. Originally established as Cedar Crest Country Club in 1919, the course was designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast and hosted the 1927 PGA Championship, making it the first — and still only — Dallas site to host a men’s major championship.

After the original club closed during the Great Depression, the City of Dallas acquired the property in 1946 and transformed it into a public golf facility. Cedar Crest has since remained an important part of the Dallas golf community while continuing to host significant amateur and professional competitions.

Beyond its place in golf history, Cedar Crest continues to play an important role in growing the game and creating opportunities for the next generation of golfers. In 2018, PGA professional and Cedar Crest Director of Golf Ira Molayo founded the I AM a Golfer Foundation with a mission to be a catalyst for community renewal and transformation in Southern Dallas through the programming, preservation and promotion of Cedar Crest Golf Course.

Through its programming initiatives, the foundation provides affordable golf instruction, paid internships and college scholarships to area youth. Its preservation efforts focus on celebrating Cedar Crest’s history while supporting the revitalization and maintenance of the historic course, while its promotion initiatives bring increased awareness to Cedar Crest through community and competitive events. Since its inception, the foundation has engaged more than 3,600 young people through golf and leadership programs, created 145 paid internships and early-career opportunities and awarded more than $400,000 in college scholarships.

The foundation’s work adds another chapter to Cedar Crest’s legacy, ensuring the historic course remains not only a place where championship golf is played, but also a place where young golfers can learn the game and find opportunities to grow both on and off the course.

The course’s history and design will provide a unique challenge for the LJT field. Players will be tested throughout the 18-hole layout, requiring accuracy and strategic decision-making to navigate Cedar Crest’s historic design. With two rounds of championship golf on the schedule, consistency from the opening tee shot through the final hole will be key to earning a spot at the top of the leaderboard.

The North Texas Classic will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play, with players competing in the Boys, Boys 14 & Under and Girls divisions. The championship field is limited to 120 players, with the opening round scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, followed by the final round on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The championship returns to Cedar Crest after an exciting 2025 event that saw Brayden Verret, Austin Anderson and Megan Lee capture their respective division titles. Verret earned the Boys Division title following a four-way playoff, while Anderson claimed the Boys 14 & Under championship and Lee captured the Girls Division title.

“Last year’s North Texas Classic produced some great competition, and we expect another strong field this year,” Walker said. “With the season beginning to wind down, every opportunity to compete becomes even more important. We are looking forward to seeing how the players handle the challenge of Cedar Crest and who emerges with a championship.”

The North Texas Classic has become an important stop on the Legends Junior Tour schedule, giving junior golfers an opportunity to compete on a historic golf course while continuing to build their tournament experience. For many players, the event also represents another chance to make a late-season push in the LJT standings and finish the year on a high note.

First-round pairings will be released Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. The opening round will begin Saturday, Sept. 12, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. off the No. 1 tee.

Final-round pairings will be determined following the completion of the first round, with the final round scheduled to begin Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the completion of play in each division.
