Entry & Eligibility Information

Entries Open: January 3, 2024 @ 9:00 AM

Entries Close: Monday Prior to each event @ 5:00 PM

The Texas Golf Association does not have staff nor rules officials on site for any Medalist Events, these events are run by strictly by host club staff.

Eligibility: Entries open to male amateur golfers who reside in  Texas.  Applicants must have a certified WHS Handicap Index of 15.0 or less through a TGA member club.  Please reference TGA Policies and Procedures for TGA further details, including Policies and Proceudres, and Terms of Competitons.  There are no regional restrictions; members can play in any TGA Medalist North, TGA Medalist Hill Country, or TGA Gulf Coast events.

WHS Handicap: Players needing a WHS Handicap who are not members of a TGA Member Club can join the TGA Medalist program by clicking here.

Entry Procedure: The field will be established in the order in which entries are received.  Each event will be allocated 39 Open Division and 12 Senior Division (age of 55 or older at the start of the first round) players for the first two weeks of registration.  Once the two week-deadline has passed, and if the field or a division is not full, the TGA will fill the remaining spots in the field with wait listed entries, which may affect the original size of each division.  These entries will be accepted into the field in the order in which received, regardless of division.  For additional information regarding wait list and when the number of applicant exceeds the division capacity, please refer to the TGA Men’s Competition Policies.

Championship Information

Format/Field Size: Scheduled for 36 holes of Stroke Play (no cut), gross only. Field limit of 51 players.

EXEMPTIONS

Earned Exemptions

For each event players play, they will earn Medalist Player of the Year points based on their overall finish. There will be one Player of the Year in each region in both the Open and Senior Division one (1) Medalist North POY and Senior POY, one (1) Medalist Hill Country POY and Senior POY, one (1) Medalist Gulf Coast POY and Senior POY.  Earning POY points will only count for that respectibe series the points were earned (i.e playing in the Medalist North #1 will only count towards the Medalist North POY standings – not Hill Country or Gulf Coast).

Provided players are otherwise eligible, earned exemptions and their qualifications are given out into the following tournaments:

  1. Texas Mid-Amateur Championship – The Medalist Player of the Year in the North, Hill Country and Gulf Coast Series receive exemptions into the 2024 Texas Mid-Amateur Championship at TBD.
  2. Texas Senior Amateur – The Senior Medalist Player of the Year in North, Hill Country, and Gulf Coast Series receive exemptions into the 2024 Texas Senior Amateur at The Nelson Golf & Sports Club.
  3. North Mid-Amateur – Top five (5) players on previous year's Medalist North points list; (must live in North Texas region to use exemption)
  4. South Mid-Amateur – Top five (3) players on previous year's Medalist Hill Country and Medalist Gulf Coast points list; (must live in South Texas region to use exemption)
  5. North Amateur – Top five (5) players on current year's Medalist North points list; (must live in North Texas region to use exemption)
  6. South Amateur – Top five (3) players on current year's Medalist Hill Country and Medalist Gulf Coast points list; (must live in South Texas region to use exemption)

Points Breakdown: points are awarded based on the final finishing position in the respective event.  All ties, other than first place, which is determine by a sudden death playoff, will receive that positions full points (i.e. two players tie for second place will both receive the full allotment of second place).

Grace Jin wins the 103rd Women’s Texas Amateur

BEE CAVE – Grace Jin of Huntsville wins the 103rd Women’s Texas Amateur after defeating Emma McMyler 1 UP.

The sun rose on Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Bee Cave for the final match day of the 103rd Women’s Texas Amateur. In her first time competing in the championship, Jin won 5 matches on the way to becoming the 103rd Women’s Texas Amateur Champion joining an elite list of champions.

BEE CAVE – No. 6 seeded Grace Jin of Huntsville and No. 8 Emma McMyler of San Antonio will face off in the final of the 103rd Women’s Texas Amateur.  

Jin, a rising sophomore at Sam Houston State University would kick off her quarterfinal matchup against No.3 seed Veronika Exposito of The Woodlands. Jin would go 1 UP early and hold that lead in the match going into the back nine. Jin would lose No.10 but gain it right back on No. 11 and No.12. From there, Jin would march herself into the semifinals winning 4&3.
