McAllen Country Club to Host 88th Texas Senior Amateur
DALLAS – The Texas Golf Association (TGA) is proud to announce that the 88th Texas Senior Amateur will be held at McAllen Country Club in 2025. This marks the first time the prestigious championship will be contested at the historic South Texas venue.
Scheduled for October 3-5, 2025, the 88th edition of the Texas Senior Amateur will bring together the state’s most accomplished amateur golfers aged 55 and older. Players will earn a spot in the field through one of eight qualifiers located throughout the state unless they are already exempt.
The tournament field will test their skills on McAllen Country Club’s challenging layout, known for its narrow tree-lined fairways and small greens. The traditional design stretches out to 6,400 yards across the par-71 layout.
“We are excited to partner with McAllen CC this fall for the Texas Senior Am,” said TGA Director of Competitions John Cochran IV. “We know that the Valley is an area of Texas that has seen a massive growth of golf, and we think that this championship is going to be a great way to re-introduce golfers in Texas to the region.”
Established in 1946, McAllen Country Club is one of the region’s most esteemed private clubs. The classic course design and top-tier facilities will provide a memorable championship experience for players, officials, and spectators alike.
“It’s truly an honor to host the most accomplished senior golfers in the state of Texas,” said McAllen Country Club General Manager Jeff Lowder.
This year’s championship continues the TGA’s mission of showcasing the best of amateur golf while partnering with outstanding host venues across Texas. The Texas Senior Amateur has long been a proving ground for top-tier senior talent, with past champions earning recognition both locally and nationally.
The last time the Texas Senior Amateur was held in the Lower Rio Grande Valley was in 1985. The event was held at Harlingen Country Club and Lee Fischer, of Harlingen, was victorious that year. In the last five years the event has been held across the state at The Nelson Golf & Sports Club (Dallas), Amarillo Country Club, Champions Golf Club (Houston), Westwood Golf Club (Houston) and Ridgewood Country Club (Waco).
Registration for the Texas Senior Amateur will open on May 28. More information, including qualifying dates and spectator details, is available at www.txga.org.
