Liu, Anderson and Fancher Leads the Field after the First Round of LJT Flodder Financial Shootout

Briefly: Sohpia Liu of Sugarland leads the Girls 12-18 Division after opening with a 73 one-over par. Liu started her round going birdie-birdie on her first two holes. Recording four birdies on her front nine, she shot 3-under 33 on the front nine.

Austin Anderson of Gunter leads the Boys 14 & Under Division opening with a 71 one-under par. Anderson recorded a birdie on hole one and an eagle hole 5 to shoot a 1-under 35 on the front nine. He followed with a steady even par on the back to card a one-under round to lead the field by one.

Stone Fancher of Dallas leads the Boys 15-18 Division opening with a 69 three-under par. Fancher shot even par 36 on the front and followed that with a 33 on the back. He recorded a total of six birdies for the round to lead the field by one.

In Contention: Following Liu, Katelyn Allen of Montgomery sits in second place three strokes behind with a four-over 76. Allen consistently shot 2-over on each nine for her first round. In third place is Avery Glanzer of Benbrook with a seven-over 79.

The Boys 14 and Under Division had a close finish, with only one stroke separating second, third, and fourth place. Bryar Murphy of Prosper shot even-par 72 to finish one stroke behind the lead. Owen Layton, also from Prosper, follows with a one-over par 73, and following that with a two-over par 74 finish is Tanner Hwang.

In the Boys 15-18 Division, seven other players shot under-par rounds to finish one to two strokes behind the lead. Maddox Cleavinger and Preston Chabaud, both from Katy, Texas, carded two-under par 70s.  Five other players posted rounds of one-under-par 71 to stay two strokes off the lead: Noah Bahrami of Houston; Veer Dev of Lucas; Drew McSpadden of Austin; Cole Matthias of Katy; and Matthew Lewis of Arlington.

Golf Course: The Club at Falcon Point is hosting the Flodder Financial Shootout for the eighth straight year. Designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, the golf course features 18 championship holes forcing players to hit a variety of shots. The course is playing just over 6,600 yards in the Boys 15-18 Division and almost 6400 yards in the Boys 14 & Under Division.  The Girls 12 – 18 Division course played at 5,900 yards.

Tournament Format: The Flodder Financial Shootout is a 36-hole stroke play event for players ages 12-19 that have a valid membership with a member of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The tournament field features three divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and Girls 12-18. 

Weather: Round 1 of the Flodder Financial Shootout featured partly cloudy skies with a 45-minute rain delay that suspended play for most of the Boys Divisions. Play resumed with most groups having three to four holes to finish. The players teed off this morning with temperatures in the low 70’s and finished their rounds with temperatures in the low 90’s.  

What’s at Stake: The top half of each division field will be awarded points towards the LJT Player of the Year Standings. The tournament is ranked by Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard. Several future LJT Tournament Exemptions will be handed out to the top finishers in each division.

Player of the Year Points: 1000 points in the 2025 Player of the Year Point Race are up for grabs this weekend at the Flodder Financial Shootout.  Points are awarded at each tournament to the top half of each age division.  

What’s Next: The final round of the Flodder Financial Shootout will begin at 7:30 am on Tuesday, June 17.
