Legends Junior Tour Spring Preview heads to Cleburne Golf Links
ADDISON – The Legends Junior Tour will head to Cleburne Golf Links for the 2025 edition of the Spring Preview, scheduled for March 1-2.
“We are excited to bring this event to Cleburne Golf Links,” Tournament Coordinator Preston Vinzant said. “It’s not often that we have links-style courses in Texas, so it will be fun to see how the course challenges these skilled golfers.”
Cleburne Golf Links is an 18-hole, links-style course with scenic views and a peaceful setting on Lake Pat Cleburne. The layout features a mix of challenging holes and is designed to accommodate all skill levels. The course, which opened in 2009, stretches 7,068 yards from the longest tees and is considered a hidden gem worth the drive from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Part of the land on which Cleburne Golf Links sits was once home to Cleburne Country Club, which hosted the Cleburne Invitational from 1929 to 1941. The inaugural championship was won by a high school golfer from Fort Worth—Ben Hogan. Three years later, Hogan became the first golf professional in Cleburne Country Club’s history, which dates back to 1906. A brick home at the corner of Prairie and Second streets marks where Hogan married Valerie Fox, whose father was the projectionist at the Yale Theater. The historic Yale Theater building is currently undergoing renovations in downtown Cleburne.
“The history behind this course is great, and we are excited to have our players experience it,” Vinzant said. “The staff and membership have been incredibly supportive of the tournament, and we look forward to continuing a great relationship with Cleburne Golf Links.”
The Spring Preview features an 90-player field across three age divisions. The high-level competition will take place over 36 holes of stroke play, with the winners joining a prestigious list of past champions, including Will Zalatoris, Cole Hammer, Anne Chen, Hailee Cooper, Cole Sherwood and Andrew Petruzzelli.
At the 2024 Spring Preview, held at Cedar Crest Golf Course, Trenton Mierl of Austin staged a dramatic comeback to win the Boys 15-18 Division. Mierl started the final round three strokes behind but carded a 69-70 – 139 to win by one stroke. It marked his first title in the division. In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Declan Dent of Grapevine secured victory with a 70-71 – 141 finish, winning by three strokes. It was one of multiple titles Dent claimed in 2024. In the Girls 12-18 Division, Alicia Bellindir of Coppell earned her first Legends Junior Tour victory with a 74-74 -148 total.
The Legends Junior Tour is part of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance, a collaboration between the Texas Golf Association, the Northern and Southern Texas PGA, and the Houston Golf Association. The tour, which operates under the Texas Golf Association and its foundation, has supported junior golf initiatives since its inception in 2005. It conducts some of the state’s premier junior championships, including the Veritex Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship, the Texas Junior Amateur, the Texas Girls’ Invitational, and the Texas Cup Invitational.
The first round of the Spring Preview will begin March 1 at 8 a.m. with a single-tee start on No. 1.
