Legends Junior Tour Collegiate Preview heads to Wichita Falls Country Club
ADDISON – The 2026 Collegiate Preview is set to visit Wichita Falls Country Club for the first time in the tournament’s history. The event marks the final Legends Junior Tour tournament in June before the summer schedule shifts into July.
“We are excited to bring such a great event to a wonderful venue,” said Legends Junior Tour Director Scott Davidson. “This tournament is unique. It presents a challenging format on a demanding course.”
The Collegiate Preview features an 84-player field with stroke play contested over 54 holes, including 36 holes on the opening day.
“This event is designed to prepare junior golfers for collegiate competition, where 36-hole days are common,” Davidson said.
Founded in 1914, Wichita Falls Country Club carries a rich history rooted in the city’s early development and ties to the oil boom. Originally established as Wichita Falls Golf Club with a nine-hole course, the club faced financial struggles during the Great Depression before being reorganized. A pivotal figure in its revival was Solon Featherston, who purchased the club and led significant improvements.
“Wichita Falls Country Club has a great relationship with the Texas Golf Association, and we’re excited to grow that connection further through the Legends Junior Tour,” Davidson said.
The club has hosted numerous TGA and USGA qualifiers, as well as notable TGA events including multiple Father-Son Championships, three Texas Amateurs, and the 1989 Texas Mid-Amateur. Wichita Falls Country Club is also set to host the 43rd Texas Mid-Amateur presented by Hytera US in 2026.
At the 2024 Collegiate Preview, held at Gus Wortham Park Golf Course, Spencer Carter of Dallas claimed the Boys Division title. Carter posted rounds of 71-67-68 to finish at 7-under 206, winning by one stroke.
In the Girls Division, Brielle Burns of Houston delivered a dominant performance. The 2024 graduate carded rounds of 69-72-76 for a 4-over 217 total, earning a six-shot victory.
The Collegiate Preview is ranked by both Golfweek and the World Amateur Golf Rankings, featuring Boys and Girls Divisions and awarding points toward the LJT Player of the Year standings.
In addition to Player of the Year points, participants will compete for exemptions into premier LJT invitationals, including the 99th Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts Golf at Horseshoe Bay Resort from July 29-31, and the George Hannon Junior Invitational at UT Golf Club on Aug. 12-13.
