Law, Frerichs, and Baer Win Flodder Financial Shootout
Briefly: Ethan Law of Spring cards a final round 71 to win the Boys 15-18 Division. Law finished the tournament at 1-under par 143 after rounds of 72-71. Calgary’s Brooke Frerichs came from 5 back to win the Girls 12-18 Division with a tournament total of 12-over par 156. Grant Baer of Argyle came out on top in the Boys 14 & Under Division. Baer, the first round leader, finished at 3-over par 147 for a three shot win in the division.
In Contention: First round leader Aidan Dortch finishes in second place after a final round of 1-over par 73. Dortch finished the event at even-par, 144 overall. Brooks Harper and Reese Roberts both finished tied for third at 1-over par 145, after final rounds of 72 and 71 respectively. Rounding out the top five is Braden Baize at 2-over par 146. Baize moved into the top five thanks to a final round of 2-under par 70.
In the Girls 12-18 Division, first round leader Gaia Esparza and Syna Nijhawan finished tied for second at 13-over par 157. Brooke Yount finished in fourth place at 14-over par 158, and Morgan Ankenbrandt completed the top five at 15-over par 159.
Khai Reyes moved past three players in the final round to finish in second place at 6-over par 150 overall. Jeffrey Rubenstein finished third at 7-over par 151, and 2-time LJT champion Jack Clancy finished fourth at 8-over par 152 overall.
In addition to the overall champions, the low final round score was also recognized in each division. These players were recognized by the Flodder Financial Group for their commitment to finishing the tournament strong. Braden Baize was recognized in the Boys 15-18 Division with a final round 70, Khai Reyes was recognized in the Boys 14 & Under Division with a final round 75, and Syna Nijhawan was recognized in the Girls 12-18 Division with a final round 78.
Golf Course: The Club at Falcon Point is hosting the Flodder Financial Shootout for the fifth straight year. Designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, the golf course features 18 championship holes forcing players to hit a variety of shots. The course is playing just over 6,600 yards in both the Boys 15-18 Division and the Boys 14 & Under Division and a little less than 6,000 yards in the Girls 12-18 Division.
About the Sponsor: The Flodder Financial Group has sponsored the Flodder Financial Shootout since it’s inception in 2010. The group’s goal is to provide the most complete and accessible set of applications to help monitor and manage accounts. Kyle Flodder is the Managing Director of Client Strategies and played junior golf in Texas before going on to play collegiately at TCU. President of the group is Steven Flodder, who enjoys coming out and watching the players during the Flodder Financial Shootout.
Tournament Format: The Flodder Financial Shootout is a 36-hole stroke play event for players ages 12-19 that have a valid membership with a member of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance.
Weather: Players battled high humidity through out the morning. Temperatures for the day ranged from 75 to 90 degrees. Winds picked up a bit from the first round, with speeds topping out at 12 mph.
What’s at Stake: The top half of each division field will be awarded points towards the LJT Player of the Year Standings. The tournament is ranked by Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard.
