Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship set for July 14-15
ADDISON – The Legends Junior Tour summer schedule continues with the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship at South Shore Harbour Country Club in League City, Texas. The tournament is set for July 14–15 and will be played on the Shore Nine and Harbour Nine courses.
“We are excited to bring this event to a new venue,” said Tournament Coordinator Charlie Martindale. “This is a popular event for the junior players, and to be able to showcase the type of talent the Legends Junior Tour has at South Shore Harbour will be great.”
South Shore Harbour Country Club is the centerpiece of a master-planned Gulf Coast community developed in the 1980s and ’90s. Officially opened between 1983 and 1994, the Marr/Riviere golf design evolved into a classic, waterside championship venue by the late 1990s. Beyond golf, the club—and its amenities including a marina, dining, and tennis facilities—serves as the cultural and social hub of the greater South Shore Harbour area. Its transformation from open links to a lush, engaging environment reflects the community’s growth into a premier destination in League City.
The 2024 Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship, originally scheduled for July, was rescheduled to November due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl. It was held at the Golf Club at Texas A&M and served as the Legends Junior Tour’s final event of the season.
Tripp Depoy of The Woodlands claimed the Boys Division title with rounds of 72-68 for a 2-under finish. Depoy surged up the leaderboard after starting the final round four strokes off the lead, earning his first win on the Legends Junior Tour.
In the Girls Division, Syna Nijhawan of Houston emerged victorious with scores of 73-75 to finish 6-over for the tournament. Nijhawan edged the field by one stroke, securing her first win of the 2024 season. She also finished tied for fourth at the Texas Girls’ Invitational earlier in the year.
In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Zachary Rubis of Farmers Branch posted rounds of 72-74 to finish 4-over and win by two strokes. A member of the class of 2029, Rubis capped a standout season with additional top-five finishes at the TJGA Invitational and the Flodder Financial Shootout.
The Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event featuring three divisions: Boys, Girls, and Boys 14 & Under. The 120-player field will tee off beginning at 7:30 a.m. on July 14.
